Briles agrees to extension...was contacted by Arkansas, Tennessee, and Auburn.

I doubt that would have kept anyone from going after him if they really wanted him. Drayton McClane probably just signed a check to keep him there.

Interesting - Briles has to believe that he can become THE coach at Baylor (surpassing Teaff) what with the new stadium, building on RGIII etc. They finished the season impressively.
He's got to get a DC in there and start recruiting better for D. The safety (forgot his name) is one of the few guys who was legitimately being sought by other big programs.

Super-no-support-my-buddy-said rumor is that the extension is for 3.5mm...
I don't see a 4-5mm buyout being to big for the SEC...I think Less Miles has a 10+mm one? I could be way off.

Isn't that Dixon? They snagged that DL last year that was highly recruited as well.

Way off. 1.5 mil for Michigan and Michigan only.

That's hilarious. I was a "longtime lurker" you could say. I think I had about 3 posts in the first fours years. Generally I only post on stuff that I think I can give an intelligent answer - so that narrows it down!

I doubt it, there is a general consensus that UT will not poach a HC from another Big12 school. Yes, we took David McWilliams from Tech back in the SWC days but consider McWilliams' ties to Texas (and I think he had 1-2 years at Tech).
Same holds true for Patterson.
If Petersen is available - he is the likely choice.
ETA - also I think there is some friction between Briles and UT due to his son's time here under Mack. There is also some general dislike of Briles from the UT fan base for his voting in the coaches poll in 2008, when he put Texas much lower than OU in the final poll.

Yeah, Ahmad Dixon. Javonte Mcgee was another nice DL that they pulled in last year.
