Where would he have been drafted?

Luck, RGIII, Tannehill, Weeden, Wilson etc.

in your fairy-tale world did JR beat Bama in the BCSNCG? If so, then #2, maybe even #1

He would have easily been the third QB off the board after Luck and RGIII.

I tend to agree with this.

I said it was retarded how highly touted he was then. I don't know what the frick Kiper and the others were thinking.

He definitely ended the season playing really well. Troy Smith, another qb, swept the Heisman and all the All-American awards. Every single one. So, no, Jamarcus Russell was not considered the best qb in cfb that season.

It's not really the point at all though. I mean Tebow was called the best qb in cfb history, and no one thought he would be an NFL success. From just watching Jamarcus, nothing gave me the impression he would be a successful NFL qb.

he was the best QB in CFB. it's not really arguable

he was an efficient QB with an accurate/strong arm who made good decisions, was part of a lot of wins, and led a bunch of late-game comebacks

The Raiders got the #1 pick in a year where Russell was the best QB in CFB.

Who else was in the draft? Brady Quinn, Trent Edwards and Kevin Kolb.

When my Raiders drafted him, I was certain Russell was going to be a stud. Good sweet Lord did was that wrong.

who made good decisions
Oh Lord. The guy was an absolute gun-slinger in the worst possible way. He made some of the most boneheaded passes constantly and they always seemed to somehow work out. LSU had a ridiculous receiving corps that year. One of the best of all time (Doucet, Holliday, Bowe). They bailed him out constantly with great catches. Still, he had TWO 3-interception games! Two! Name any other qb in cfb history that had multiple 3-int games and is considered the best qb in college football. I'll wait.

Haha, I had a friend predict the Raiders to the Super Bowl the next season. I said are you kidding me, Russell is gonna be a total bust. I'm just not seeing whatever they see. I remember that conversation very well.

that's a silly comment

Dwyane Bowe was awesome

JR made buster into a top WR

Early Doucet was a solid collegiate 2/3 WR. he's nothing amazing

and troy smith barely threw for 100 yards twice. in the big10.

are we talking about the best QB in CFB or the best QB in particular games?

Well, we were originally talking about why the frick Russell was considered a solid NFL prospect.

Saying "he's the best qb in the cfb" doesn't mean anything in terms of the NFL. Eric Crouch, Tim Tebow, and Danny Wuerffel say hi.

I knew he was raw. I watch a lot of SEC football - LSU in particular - so I had seen some of both the good and the bad.

His ability to keep cool in comeback situations was unreal. His arm, obviously, was ridiculous. He could also be pretty accurate.

If he worked for it, he could have been really good. That's what makes his career such a disappointment.

No player has so thoroughly disappointed me... and I'm a Raider fan! Disappointment is the name of the game right now.

none had the physical tools to be NFL QBs

Jamarcus had possibly the best set of physical tools of any CFB QB ever

so it's not really comparable

You really didn't answer any of his questions...simply posted other irrelevant facts to the proposition that JR was the best QB in CFB.
