Think about the money both Brees and Payton have made the Saints. I believe they are both worth it FWIW Benson is the only person that needs to think if they are worth the money.

Some people, myself included are just sort of tired of our success always hinging on well Brees plays.

Understandable, but this is sort of how the league is these days. Barring completely suffocating defense, teams must have good QB play to win.

Probably because it eats up so much of the salary cap and forces us to make big sacrifices at other positions of need.

except it actually doesn't.

Cap hit:
2012- $9 million cap hit
2013 - 17.4
2014 - 18.4
2015 - 26.4
2016 - 27.4

While that looks bad, the salary cap is set to drastically increase with the new TV deal being signed in the offseason. Salary cap space ($8 million I think) will roll over to next year

He got fair market value:

Peyton Manning Salary Cap hit

2012: 18 million
2013: 20 million
2014: 20 million
2015: 19 million

--that was for an injured QB

Tom Brady:
2013: 21.8 million
2014: 21.8 million

Aaron Rodgers is going to get a bigger contract than that, then RG3 and Luck will. All the elite teams will have their QB getting paid 100+ million

I'll flip it around. Why do so many people suck Drew's penis no matter what happens?

He's more than earned the respect he receives for all he has done, and continues to do for this franchise.

Why turn on the guy now? Quarterbacks have bad games. Get over it. He has more than made up for that. We have a very bright future. Why bitch? It's one thing to acknowledge he had a bad game or so.. but it's another to completely bash the man to no avail. It's still a team sport.. other players have also let this team down. Don't lose sight of that. Take the Greatness with the Bad. The bad times have been few with Brees as the QB and leader of this team.

Entering this season, since Brees became a Saint.. No other QB had more victories.. in the entire NFL.. Yes, he has had a high interception season before trying to do too much and playing with an injury no fan even knew about.. but he bounced back to a 13-3 season with 1 defensive stand from 2 world championships.

Just ponder over that and realize what a blessing it is to have such an elite QB and high powered offense for the past 6-7 seasons. It's an absolute treat and joy to get see #9 take the field for this franchise. One I will Never take for granted.

You almost sound bitter. Clearly pathetic.

The Saints have been here before and bounced back.. actually far worse. Look at 2007 and 2010.

We've seen Brees a top the NFL in interceptions trying to do too much.. and we've also seen him bounce back even greater. There are reasonings to it. What exactly are you looking for?

Yes the man has played a couple of bad games.. but he's still an incredibly talented QB and yes he is still elite. One of the games best period.

But hey hating is clearly your agenda. You can say otherwise all you want, but that would be an untruth.

You're acting like a bitch. All i can say to you is enjoy it why you briefly can. History has a way of repeating itself over and over again.

It's one thing for you to have an opinion and stick to it, but it's another when you resort to calling the opposing view a worshipper..

You still can't see we have an actual track record for our belief. You don't want to see it. You call us names and claim it's homerism even tho I can guarantee if you took a poll of other teams fans as to whether Brees is elite.. it would overwhelmingly be Yes.

This place has turned into an incredible rant, but we've it all before. You are no different. I really appreciate the typical, "oh you are just a Brees cocksucker" mentality you carry. Such an awesome counter argument you have with so much basis.

Oly Crap I am having so much fun. I don't think I can stop.

quote:

Drew Brees made headlines this offseason signing a five-year, $100 million contract with the Saints which, when bonuses are included, reportedly will pay him a whopping $40 million in 2012. But when it comes exclusively to salary earned, Brees does not even crack the top 10 for 2012 according to Forbes.com, which recently released its rankings for the highest-paid players in 2012. In fact, you won't see other big names like Brady or Manning (well, one of them, at least) on the list, either. And some guys, like Calvin Johnson, who just signed big-money extensions this offseason don't make the cut. In fact, you may be quite surprised by who sits atop the list. Here are 10 highest-paid players in the NFL for 2012.

Top 10
1. Dewight Freeney
2. Elvis Dumervil
3. Peyton Manning
4. Sam Bradford
5. Phillip Rivers
6. Jared Allen
7. Tamba Hali
8. Michael Vick
9. Trent Williams
10. Larry Fitzgerald

First of all, I like brees' contract and have no issues with it.

I also think its completely fair to question an athletes salary. An athletes salary is based purely on value and production. If value and production don't equal the salary, then it's fair to not be happy.

I also am not fond of the notion that someone should be compensated for what they have done in previous years. I feel a contract pays accordingly for production moving forward.

Again, drew Is a top 4 qb and deserved his money, but when you lead the league in ints, it's fair to question compensation.

Hind sight is 20/20 eh?

Any jack arse can look backwards and decide if an investment was worth it, but it's a bit harder to project future value. Based on Brees' 2011 season, and the preceding 4 seasons, I would say there was no other alternative than to pay the man and pay him big. He's having a mediocre year (by his standards), true, but I am pretty damn sure he'll bounce right back, just as he did in 2009 and 2011, coming off of less than great / high interception seasons.

I think peeps care about pay should and will increase as the avg joe fan catches up with the world of the salary cap.

You can make a case that it isn't the team with the best players that wins most consistently. It is the teams that get the most bang for the salary cap bucks.

Brees is gonna be pushing over 15% of the entire team cap. Problem? No. It's a QB driven league that it only becoming stronger that way. Having one of the very best that is a surefire HOFer 15% sounds fine to me. Does he contribute more than 15% of what it takes for this team to win? Consider that and $15-20mil starts looking cheap.

If ya wanna know what a bad contract is consider Sanchez & the Jets. They're paying $55mil the next 4 years for that level of production. It would cost them $14mil of real money & cap to cut him.
