Perhaps then the use of public tax dollars to fund private teachers unions is also unconstitutional?

ALL the MFP money should be dispersed as vouchers and EVERY Louisiana family should receive vouchers. The money needs to start in the classroom and quit filtering to these leeches and these little fiefdoms call school boards. If a local government want so to remain in the government school business let their schools compete for the vouchers. It is asinine to dictate to taxpayers that to receive a publicly financed education you must send your kid to this particular school regardless of it's quality. Competition among schools will result in better paid, better qualified teachers and much better education of our population. Teacher's unions know that widespread vouchers will result in better pay to private school teachers working in non union schools and their source of dues will be threatened. Anybody that thinks these union leaders are looking out for good teachers and education is fooling themselves.

This. In some countries in Europe the vouchers are issued to families with children. The family then "cashes in" the voucher with the school they choose for their child to attend.

Thank God this was blocked. We don't need to start sending all of these lower income kids in to bring down the nicer private schools to public school levels.

This is my thoughts on vouchers. Louisiana's public school system is awful. We taxpayers are paying for it regardless. I don't see the harm of those parents that want their kids to get out of a shitty school, have the opportunity. We pay for it no matter what, so money shouldn't be the issue. However, i also see the issue, if these voucher students bring down the standards of private schools. However, i don't think any studies have been done to show this. I do, also see, that it is unfair for one to pay for their kids education to go to a private school, and have another get to go to the same school for free or for my taxpayer dollars. In essence i'm paying for them twice. So i'm conflicted. We are paying for them anyway, so i'd like these kids to have a chance to graduate and become productive members of society, but it is also, unfair to have us taxpayers have to pay for our children, and now someone else's, to go to the same school.

Well, if you send your kids to private school you are paying for their private education and the public education that they are not using. As someone else already said, all students in LA should get vouchers.

Give the voucher to EVERY kid. The schools will then have the freedom to be run as they should be. It is just stupid to say to a school you must educate a "bad" kid . ( I promise you this if there were real possibilities those kids would be kicked out of school and sent home from what their parents view as government baby sitting the kids will not be so bad.) Give the freedom of choice to Louisiana families AND make them understand that with freedom comes responsibilities. It's time to end the pass them on to the next grade just because .

Agreed. But the other part of my brain thinks that, well we are paying for our kids private and public anyway. If this voucher system works, why not at least use it to make productive members of society who can eventually become valued taxpayers? But then again, where does it stop, and i am not for giving the government any more power at all, nor do i want them dicking around in private education either.

I'm a lawyer and work in political consulting. I don't base my perceptions on judges from commercials. I don't think he's an arch-conservative but he is typically a Jindal loyalist. He's probably quite pissed about his recent race.

I completely agree with this. Does a private school have to accept voucher students?

No, it's up to the school whether or not they accept voucher kids.
