Kent St would be in the Orange, not the Sugar. The latter gets to pick before the former.

Me and buddies went to sugar last year lower bowl for 11 bucks a ticket

Sure. They don't HAVE to align with a conference as far as I know. They unaligned themselves with the Big East a few years ago. I'd assume they could have done the same with the ACC if they wanted.
