I know alot of HOG fans may not want to go the up and coming route but i think this guy is going to be the next "HOT" name coach. He's turned around a terrible San Jose State team while out recruiting some PAC 12 schools, according to some experts, in the process. He's a defensive minded guy with a nice track record of making a difference with the teams he's helped coach. I'd take Petersen over him, but i'd be ok if this was our 3rd option.

WOW. I didn't even realize Mike was following his father's footsteps. Good for him. I actually played football with his brother in Nashville. Good family!

If we strike out with our top targets then I would have no problem with this whatsoever as long as Lindgren comes with him.

While this article is talking about the next HC at Texas (dear lord let it be done), it does have some good info on three up and comers, one being MacIntyre:

The Link

quote:

The WAC has another rising star coaching candidate (three if you count Dykes at Louisiana Tech). MacIntyre, the former NFL DB coach (Cowboys, Jets), turned Duke defensive coordinator (won a Broyles Award in 2009) took over a moribund San Jose State program and currently has them at 10-2. The Spartans only two losses are to the aforementioned Gary Andersen's Utah State and a three point loss to Stanford. At Stanford.

You are correct, but its more about the body of work there. The program was awful, really awful. he's been able to turn it around and get kids to sign and come play for him rather than some other PAC 12 schools. the only 2 games they lost this year were to Utah St. and at Stanford, by 3. He maybe needs one more year there to see if he can continue the success but I bet he gets a big time gig after next year. Gary Anderson (Utah St.) is another hot name and a great coach. Arky is in a different situation than most SEC schools. Lack of in state talent and basically being in the midwest, isn't the most attractive place to kids. I think its beautiful up there myself. The job requires someone to excel at coaching and doing more with less, like Petrino but better at recruiting. He also has to be a great talent evaluater. Cant afford to miss on very many kids. Florida, Bama, and some others will get so much talent they can miss on a few and not miss a step. BMFP missed on a few and it hurt us, defensively and offensively this year.
