I'm holding off a as I think the sell off will increase as the end of the year and the fiscal cliff nears. I think the next few weeks will offer a good opportunity to get in the market.
Im looking at...

I will be in this same boat soon, however I am prob much younger, still in college. May just sit on it until I see whats going to happen with taxes and fiscal cliff. Will prob stick it in something long term and less risky though. Or most of it and throw a K into the market and see if I cant make some quick hits.

If your looking long term you cant go wrong with oil however it is a lil pricey to get in on the big boys.

Well, my basis does not have the backing of financial analysis to prove my point or a very strong benchmark, but I do however feel I have a general sense of the technology market.
With that said, Microsoft has just released what I'm sure you have seen in ads as called the Surface. Without going into a long winded discussion, this release, combined with recent talks with Chinese vendors about developing a smart phone in coming years, I feel that Microsoft is positioning itself to make a strong comeback. If they continue to price their products with the same specs as apple products but also with featured that apple products lack, consumers will eventually notice.
Combine all this with the loss of Steve jobs, and I think Microsoft has a buy and hold outlook. I haven't looked recently but I saw that it was selling for around 20-25$ a share.
I don't see it as ever getting anywhere close to the success that apple experienced but I do see it being profitable in the long run.
I really don't see it as very risky based on its current price but I'm not claiming to be an expert.
As soon as consumers start realizing that Aple keeps releasing products that only
Bring themselves current with competitors features but not unique upgrades, then I think you will see people start buying products that are cheaper, have better operating features, etc.
This idea is all pendent on IF they do in fact release their own smart phone.

I am definitely expecting this to happen. But with more companies trying to compete in the smartphone market, the competition will get even tougher. Time to see who sinks and who swims.
