Too little, too late for Cap One?

"In 2006, Orange County and the City of Orlando committed $175 million for the first-ever renovation to the 70-year old facility. Only the two modern upper decks will remain from the current structure while every other facet of the stadium will be rebuilt from the ground up. Leaders from the City of Orlando and Orange County came together in 2012 to finalize a funding agreement for the stadium, giving the project a green light with an expected completion date of fall 2014."

I know most of you hate the Cap One. I live here and am embarrassed as hell. Nice that they will fix it up, but would that make a difference to you all? Would you come if it was a new stadium? Location is still in the Paramore section of the city and surrounded by empty buildings and housing projects. Wish they could bulldoze all of it.

What else is this stadium used for?

I lived in Orlando too, for 11 years. I called in sick to go to the game against Iowa. (Sure glad I did that. )

I can't stand that place. It couldn't be in a worse area. And you can never leave there without getting lost and driving through the seediest of areas praying you make it back to JYP. The 408 is right there but you can never get back to it easily.

Completely agree.

• All the high school state football championships.
• The Southern Classic (like the Bayou Classic)
• Some concerts (saw the Rolling Stones there)
• Monster truck events
• Local pro soccer team - Orlando Lions
• World Cup venue in 1994

I'd love to face Michigan in the Cap One. Would be the first time playing them

Lived here since '88. Yes, terrible area of town, but game in midday makes it "safer." If you can't get out of there, then you are an incompetent driver. Getting out in any direction is pretty easy.

I hear you about the "safer" thing. Maybe I had that place mixed up with the O-rena or whatever it's called now. I'd always get lost leaving there and ended up further into downtown Orlando on one way streets.

I lived the other way, down toward Metrowest.

Yes, the O-rena was a pain. New Arena is much easier.
I live further west in Ocoee/Windermere. Easy out on the 408.

I went to both the Iowa game and the penn st games there. After the penn st game I swore I'd never go back. As far as renovation, it's hard to polish a turd!
If they are gonna sink that kinda money into a project at least do it in a part of town that people feel safe going to.

I live in West Palm and came up for the Iowa and PSU fricking games. They do need to drop a bomb on that whole side of town. I wouldn't mind it as much if it wasn't such a shite hole. That rain game was one of the worst games I've ever been to. Water was pouring into the concessions under the stands for the Penn St. game. And a crackhead stole my ice chest out of the back of a pick up truck 30 feet from our tailgate tent.

I know the exact area. After I moved from Metrowest, I wasn't far from the West Oaks Mall.

I've been to the two LSU CapOne appearances and to Maryland's appearance in the Champ Sports Bowl.

Despite the sketchiness of the area of town where the stadium is located, the night time setting of the Champ Sports game still made it more appealing to me (perhaps my LSU blood showing).
That was the most enoyable of the games.

The Penn State game was an abomination, but they have gone to turf so that it can't happen again.

I hear ya. Suppose to renovate from ground up. Maybe it's just me, but I did not feel unsafe in that area. Games always in the day time. I parked fairly close, so maybe that helps. If you park farther away, then yes, there are questionable areas to walk through.
I think that area will be totally different in 10 or more years. Developers are buying up property from downtown to the bowl. Unfortunately, it will be slow.

I went to both IA and Penn St games there. Parked in the RV lot next to the staduim. I have never heard more gunfire on New Years Eve than that place. Scared the shite out of me!

I also live here and I hope LSU does not get chosen for this Bowl game ever again. It is a horrible facility and the city does a terrible job with this event.

The stadium should be torn down.

It sits in an area of Orlando called Parramore. That area is among the top in the country yearly in per capita murders. It is an absolutely horrible area. There is also a massive homeless shelter near the area that really makes things bad as well.

I've seen your license plate on your car (SUV?) while driving on the 408 West bound.

I thought to myself, damn, that plate looks familiar to me.
