You might be a SaintTard if...

Yes it's definitely TL, so DR if you don't want to, but I've put the SaintTard quotes of the day in bold quote, so it should be easy to find if you are indeed a SaintTard and then subsequently read about why your absurd misgivings make you a tard. So without further adieu...

You might be a SaintTard if you said (typed) one of these things in regards to the loss today:

quote:

1. The O Line was shit!

No. No it wasn't. In the first half, when the 9ers still had to respect the run and we were able to play according to our game plan, the O Line was doing a fine job of protecting Brees and creating running room. As fine as can be expected against such a dominant D line. They held their own and then some.

When we got down by 2 scores, we became one dimensional and were no longer giving our tackles the help they needed (big mistake!). That's when they really got outplayed. Yes they got outplayed by probably the best front 7 in all of football, while playing one dimensional offense and having a 3rd string ...scratch that, FOURTH STRING right tackle. That doesn't make them "shit".

quote:

2. The Defense was pathetic!

No. No it wasn't. The defense held the 9ers to 17 points. That's waaaay better than they need to play. If our D holds someone under 24, we win 9.9/10 times. "Holding" someone to 24 isn't exactly '85 Bears good, but with our offense, it'll win you a lot of games.

9 minute drive you say? Yes, it ate up a lot of clock, but resulted in only 3 points. In any other game, where Brees doesn't throw 2 pick 6's...back to back!...I'll trade field goals for TD's every time no matter how long they take. The defense gave up only 1 TD in the first half and played well in the red zone (becoming a hallmark of theirs) in the second half. They did get outplayed here and there (it's the NFL, it happens)... but overall, when the outcome of the game was still in contention, our D was better than their O today.

quote:

3. This one is on Brees! His hold out hurt the team. Brees is greedy!!!!

No. The only reason we ever had a shot at this one, was because Brees was out there. The first pic 6, yes, was his fault and it was a doozy, but the game was by no means over at that point. The second pic 6 was a tipped ball on a play that they make allllll the time. It was a smidgen high (still catchable though) and Colston got lit the frick up. The fact that it was immediately returned for a TD admittedly changed the complexion of the game, but saying it was "Brees' fault" that we lost is moronic. Was it his best performance? Hell no! Was it his worst? It's probably up there. Just as it's never all on him if we win, it isn't all on him that we lost.

The money and hold out talk have been beaten to death, so if that shoe fits you then I'll just say you're an idiot and leave it at that.

quote:

4. Brees is forcing the ball to X

Let me assure you that Drew Brees knows a metric shite ton more about reading coverages and finding an open man than you do. Brees isn't a great QB because he makes 'safe' throws and 'manages the game'. Brees is a great QB because he makes throws that only one or two other people on the planet might be able to make. He threads the needle with such regularity and such aplomb that we have become accustomed to it. When one of these heroic passes is completed, it's business as usual...when it's picked off or deflected it's "oh shite Brees is a shell of his former self" (or whatever). The many many passes he completes to receivers who are double and triple covered are glossed over and then some of you become armchair QB coaches when it doesn't quite work out.

Joe Flacco 'manages the game'. Drew Brees is Mike fricking Tyson (to steal a quote from Grand Master Wang)...he's coming with that haymaker and usually it's your arse that ends up flat on the canvas.

He is a high risk high reward QB, the good thing though? It pays off way more often than it bites us in the ass. Tonight it bit us in the arse a couple times and we still had an opportunity to climb back into the game. Just so happens that playing that motherfrick of a team from behind a 2 score deficit is one hell of a tough prospect. Their defense is every bit as good as advertised, especially if they know ahead of time with very little doubt what kind of play to expect from the opposing offense!

Well I agree with you on certain things. Others no. The o line was shite. Yeah they played well in the first half but were complete shite in the 2nd. Of course injuries don't help but you have to give brees some time.

And it kinda seems you don't want to put some blame on brees. Those 2 pick 6's killed us. Like you said the first one was his fault. I'll also put a lot of that second one on him because colston was left out to dry there.

I didn't say Brees was blameless, but the entire loss does not rest squarely on his shoulders.

The timing of the first pick six was atrocious
And the balloon then began to deflate

No I pretty much blame him and the o line for this game.

Jeff Duncan & Lester Earl:

Cannot separate being outplayed from being "shit". When our game plan was still viable and we were not forced to play directly into SF's hands, our O line played very well.

When we were forced to play on SF's terms, they won.

To use boxing analogy, it's like Muhammed Ali standing flat footed and trading punches with Joe Frazier. He loses that fight, but it doesn't make him bad fighter, it means he chose the wrong strategy.

We were forced to "fight their fight", and they won.

So is this a "we beat ourselves" kind of thing, or can you give the devil his due and say that the 9ers were the better team today.

Did someone actually say that today? That's just sad.

I'll say this. During a game and especially while we are losing I say some stupid things. I try to be level headed and I think I usually take it all with perspective after. My issue is usually with the Monday-Wednesday yards that say we are going to the Super Bowl or say we should sit Brees for the rest of the season to get a better pick.

ETA: Jizzy Jeff still sucks as a ST poster.

I threw in the "Brees is greedy" just for good measure, but someone definitely brought up the hold out in the game thread

I think a lot of PI calls went unflagged. really could have helped out our position.

The game totally changed with the second pick 6.
Momentum shifted.
We stopped running the ball.
The defense didn't need to respect the run anymore.

Ugh, it completely sucks playing from behind against that team.

I really fricking wish Brees hadn't done that.

There were LOTS of no-calls in this game, but I usually regard blaming the refs as the lowest form of being a sore loser, except in certain cases, eg Seattle-Green Bay earlier this year.

Yeah, what pisses me off about the Moss thing is that it turned out to be such a smart, albeit dirty, play by him. If he doesn't body slam Jenkins in the end zone, that's definitely an int, probably returned past the fifty, and possibly a pick 6. That would have been huge. As it is, the no call ended up not doing much. They kicked the FG regardless.

I agree, but still should have been flagged.
