I let a small young 8 point walk during bow season.. Neighbor shoots it yest. Yes i know its his land and he does what he wants.. Just sucks trying to manage something and they dont care

Thats why on my land, if it's legal it dies. I'm surrounded by meat hunters. If I were on a big lease I'd manage it.

Yea ur right.. I know i shoulda took it. I just dont like shooting young bucks. I can kill doe for meat.. He said he had 6 does in the plot.. And he took the little 8.. 12" spread

Sucks for sure, but we take a meat buck if we want, because we are surronded by folks that will shoot everything. I used to try and do QDM, but there is no point unless your neighbors do too. My rule is shoot what ever buck you want for #1 and once that has been done, a bigger older buck has to be number 2. Wide open on does.

Its his land and he can do as he pleases.. Just kinda sucks.. I didnt shoot because i know there is a stud 11pt too.. So im just glad he didnt get it.

If your end game is futility and anger then it will definitely pay off eventually.
I gave up and surrendered to the realities of being on a small piece surrounded by big chunks of meat hunters. You're meat hunting like it or not if you don't have a big enough place.
Doesn't hurt my feelings much though. I've become more a meat hunter over the years than I used to be anyway.

Meat hunting isnt the problem... If he was meat hunting he could have took one of the 6 does in the plot.. He jut shot the 8 to kill a buck.. Not meat hunting to me.

It could be a "natural" forest fire. They have those in the south down here right? 
You could also meet with him and try to work out some camp rules. If the two of you are in unison with rules, you could grow some big ones after a couple years.

The guys in our club do the same thing. We don't have any antler restrictions and it sucks. I let a 1 1/2 year old 12 inch wide six point walk several times during bow season and a guy in our club killed it yesterday. I can't convince these morons to let the young ones walk.

Was he proud of the young 8pt? As a hunter did it make him happy? Did he take it using any illegal or unethical methods?
Now, would you have been proud of it had you shot it? Would it have made you happy?
I think its safe to say ya'll both had a great hunt. You practiced what you preach and used restraint and good hunting managment. Your neighbor got a buck that he obviously wanted and some meat.

He has killed MUCH bigger on his "private" lease in another county. He didnt seem too excited to say the least. Just said oh i dropped a little 8 behind the house yest. He is in his 50s not some kid either
