Assassin's Creed 3 for PC -- bad console port?

Game looks gorgeous since it's on PC, but I'm experiencing low framerate and significant freezes/drops in cities, and even on the boat on the way to Boston. I'm on Crossfired flashed 6950s, so this game shouldn't be an issue, but I'm guessing it's not optimized for SLI/xfire. I started out with max settings on my new 1440p IPS monitor (frick yeah), but not much better in lower settings.

Anyone else having these issues on PC?

With Darksiders II, Sleeping Dogs, and Dark Souls I am off of ports to PC.

I haven't bought it yet. This kind of puts me off, though.

Precious few games use PC as lead platform.

I know, but it's not like a decent port is hard to do. The COD games, hate them or not, at least work with the hardware.

EDIT: A post I found in the steam forums:

if you are an nvidia owner, get the latest geforce beta drivers, an easy google search will help you find them. For AMD guys, lots of people have reported very poor performance, sorry guys :/

Getting tired of this trend. I've been an ATI/AMD graphics fanboy since I've been building PCs. I'm getting ready to make the switch.

You and me both. My next card will be Nvidia, and I hate it. I've had AMD cards for years, but there's just been chronic compatibility issues as of late and it's gotten really frustrating.

COD games were once made for the PC. After they went to console they were all ported, and had ZERO support.

I wouldn't completely rule out console ports.

Yes, the games you listed were pretty horrible in their ports, and sometimes you really just have to wait for player feedback before you buy. There are some really good ones though like Borderlands 2.

Agreed with CoD series, the last great one was CoD4 and it's still by far the most played on PC

I don't know if it's fair to think of BL2 as a standard console-to-PC port. The developers made it abundantly clear that they were paying careful attention to the process and didn't want to neglect PC gamers this time around.

The sad thing is that a lot of people are commending the BL2 team, but it is still a fairly poor port. They did a wonderful job with settings customization, but their menu interface is still abysmal.

I guess I just have a problem with how they designed it overall(menus, not the game.., huge fan of the game), because I think it's just as bad on consoles.

Yea, reason I stay away from AMD for my main gaming rig.

I know the 7970s are new top dog in some benches, but for I rather have reliable drivers for new releases.

ETA: I would love to give AMD a shot, but have been purchasing nVadia since my GT 7800.

Did you purchase full price or got a deal on ACIII for PC?

I'm holding off until I see it around $30.

Bought it earlier, played for maybe an hour. I'm running it perfectly fine but definitely running into stuff such as texture flickering at times. Had to reload at one point because the whole world disappeared. Other than that, really enjoying it.
