The run & shoot / ultra spread offenses like Oregon, Houston and A&M have tarnished the game in my opinion.

Four plus hour games, 100 points scored, I will be glad when the defense's catch up to these gimicks and shut them down once and for all.

I loved watching Stanford shut down the Ducks mighty offense !

They don't work in the NFL and I hope that soon they are discarded in college.

Oregon mostly runs a zone read/read option offense.

Yea, that is true, but it is still an ultra spread offense in nature to wear defenses out if they can.

They'll fall out of favor again. Everything goes in cycles.

Football is more about evolution than cycles.

A. Remember LSU vs Oregon in Jerryworld; didnt work.

B. If Chip Kelly tries to take the hurry up crap to the NFL, O linemen will mutiny on his hurry-up Oregon arse.

C. Stanford won the line of scrimmage; therefore, one the game against Oregon.

D. Johnny Football beat the Gumps with it, but LSU won the line of scrimmage against aTm.

So how is this concept any different then LSU or Alabama running the ball a majority of the time in the Power-I?

You only say that because we are a running team.

More coaches will implement this style of offense if it's really that effective. I don't like it either, but that's too bad.

The problem is, if you are going to run a "traditional" offense, like LSU and Bama does, you have to be the biggest and strongest team to be good at it. Only a limited number of teams can recruit well enough to be the "biggest and strongest".

So if you are one of the have nots of college football, then you have to do something to level the playing field.

That means there will ALWAYS be some sort of gimmick offense out there as teams try to make up for their lack of overall talent.

UF, Oregon and other big teams have run spread offenses with elite talent. Sometimes it works, sometimes not...just like our offense.

I'm more sick of it on the High School level. Coaches putting square pegs in round holes at the QB position most of the time.
Saw my son's team lose three games because they couldn't punch it in due to not knowing how to put a hat on a hat and blow people off the line.

Bowtie----hardly any high schools play smash mouth/hat on a hat football anymore. Crying shame the gimmick crap so many of them are running.

The word "gimmick" on here is really starting to grate. It's like any offense except the power-I is "gimmicky" and not worth a shite even when they work. You come off like a boring old man who wants to see old school big ten power run up the middle offense.

How about you enjoy th diversity of offenses in college? When I watch the nfl the offenses all look pretty similar. I'm glad it's not that way in college.

Not my age, it is the number of home runs that I hit in one season playing pro softball.
