Gonna check Martins in Metaire. Was looking online at their inventory but don't see the double wood balvenie. Going to see anyways. Maybe find a Black Friday sale. Buy one get one free hahahhaha.

Check Albertsons. Usually have some in stock. Even Winn Dixie carries it.

I know for a fact that I have gotten the Double Wood Balvenie at Matin's in Metairie before. Their stock may vary from time to time though.

I also pour and let sit for a few before I taste, and since I'm outside, it warms up perfect, kind o like letting a wine breathe I assume
Right, you want to swirl it and really Nose it first. You want the bouquet to fill your senses. Inhale deeply so you can truly appreciate the subtle nuances of the nose.

Every day at home scotch rotates between The Macallan, The Balvenie Doublewood and Glenmorangie.

Does anyone know any other grocery stores that carry more obscure scotches?
Posted on 11/24/12 at 9:56 am to fr33manator

Macallan....looking to add a Laphroiag
Two very different tastes...

Here's a question as I try to zero in on what I prefer....I've been drinking Glenlevit 12yr and also have a bottle of Johnny Black. I much prefer GL over JB. I know the JB is a blend maybe that's it. Are the Macallan 15yr and the Balvenie Doublewood 12yr similar and are they more like GL or JB or are they way different?

Very different, especially if you know how to really nose and taste the scotch.

Had a friend who was big into wine show me how to "taste" the wine. Would put just a small amount in his mouth then let it sit, breathe in a bit then swallow it. I know it sounds funny but it really did add to the flavor.

Best methodology is a sip, breathed upon with through the open mouth, then spit out, and breathe again. Then wait a few seconds a bit, and take a real quaff of the wine.
