Southern Miss likely to fire HC Ellis Johnson as soon as next Monday (Posted on 11/19/12 at 8:21 am)
Word is the money has been raised for his buyout. Johnson has proved he isn't head coach material taking a 12-2 CUSA championship team and turning them into an 0-11 team on the verge of having the first winless season in Southern Miss history.

Dooley is going to be lucky to get a HC gig anywhere. He sucked at La Tech and at Tenn. That said, I think he could have been successful if he wasn't following the disaster left by Lane Kiffen. He should have never taken that job.
He's going to have to get a small job like Southern Miss and win big to get another big chance.

I'd take Ellis as a DC next year though, he was solid at USCe in that regard. If BMFP ends up coaching somewhere he might bring Ellis in, he hired him here for about 2 weeks before Spurrier stole him

Would USM consider going the 1AA route or Div 2 route for a proven HC? I don't really know who is out there, but with all the 1aa schools in LA and MS, and the d2 schools in AL, there is probably a viable candidate somewhere in that mix.
