does anyone have experience with this gun. i recieved one last year as a christmas gift. saturday 11/17 was my first day hunting with it and luckly i did not see a shooter. anyway back to my point.
After i come down from the shooting house i put the gun on the front of my wheeler, before i make it back to the truck (1/2 mile) the gun has come apart in the gun rest on my wheeler. the screw holding the barrel to the stock has backed out and the barrel has fallen off. Is this a common problem with this gun.

I've never handled that particular model but the reviews on that product have been very good especially given the price point.
I'm not discounting your story, but it seems very unlikely that the barrel would unthread from the action without having been tampered with. In the firearms community stories like this would spread like wildfire and could cause a recall of the product by the manufacturer.
If the gun is in fact only a year old you should send it back to Marlin. If I'm not mistaken they offer a 5 year warranty on that firearm.

the barrel did not unthread from the action. the screw holding the whole action/barrel assembly to the stock fell out. so pretty much the whole top of the rifle including the trigger group came off the stock. the barrel is still attached to the action of the rifle.
i understand the hesitancy about believing it, if it had not happened to me i would not believe it either.
i am in the process of contacting marlin in hopes that they will be able to check it out. i'm hoping that maybe it was just a loose screw from the factory and is a one time incident

I have one and have been pleased with it. Do you mean that the barrelled action came loose from the stock? This will happen if you do not check that the action screws are tight. I suggest that you get lock tite blue and put on all screws and tighten them up snug, and check them each year before the season starts. This goes for the scope and mounts as well.
I have never heard of the barrel coming unscrewed from the action. I do not think this is what you were trying to describe.

you are right i guess i worded the post wrong from the beginning. i will try the lock tite on it and see if that works.

Ok, that makes me feel somewhat better. So the entire barreled action including the trigger fell out of the stock? Wow, thats certainly alarming...
I'm sure Marlin will make it right.

Did they shut down? I got one of those chain emails I half read stating they shut down.

I have one like yours and two 30.06's. All have killed deer. No problems.

There was an email floated a year or more ago that claimed that George Soros of Moveon.org fame had bought Marlin and other gun manufacturers simply to close them down. Of course this claim was false but it proved to be a widely held myth.
LINK
Marlin was bought by Remington in 2008 and the original Marlin factory in Connecticut has closed as of 2011.
Remington now makes the guns under the Marlin moniker. A shame really, but just another part of the saga that ultimately got Colt out of the civilian firearm market as well.
The firearm market is changing, the black guns are en vogue and companies like Marlin just couldnt keep going in the new marketplace. Selling lever action 30-30's is tough when everyone wants AR type guns in .223 and .308.

My dad has the same rifle in the same caliber and loves it. It has a very good trigger for the price and is very accurate.

Thanks. I figured it was bs since it smelled like all the other bs ones.

There should be two screws. One behind the trigger guard that screws into the tang of the rifle and one just in front of the magazine. Either those were left out or they were very loose and fell out.
You don't need a new rifle, you just need a screwdriver (and some screws if you lost those). I take my rifles in and out of the actions all the time. Just put them back in, tighten them up, shoot to confirm your zero, and go hunting.

BT,
This. You don't need a new rifle and you don't need to send it back to Marlin at this point, unless of course you want to spend $25 shipping and be without the rifle the rest of the season. Tighten it up and shoot it. Inspect the two action/stock screws as well as the stock itself to be sure it all looks ok. It you continue to have problems or if things don't look right, then contact Marlin/Remington.
3-4 years ago I bought a Marlin XL7? in 270 Win on sale at BPS for $280. Didn't really need a new gun, but wanted a "camp rifle" if needed to loan out to friends and such. Put an $80 low end Pentax scope on it in Burris rings. When first shot, I couldn't hardly keep it on paper using 20-25 year old factory rounds, but the rings were also too low (bolt was hitting the rear ring). Bought Burris Signature high rings and put it up for a while w/o shooting it. Decided to resurrect the project a few weeks ago. Using NEW factory 130 gr Remington Core-loks and Winchester Power Points, here's the pic of the last 100 yard, 2 shot "group" I w/ it. Looks like it was a good investment after all.
