I remember watching cool runnings on some band trip, and I immediately recognized Hans Zimmer and thought no fricking way they got him to write for cool fricking runnings

And his works in the Pirates trilogy are the best

ETA: seriously, try to mess with this

Zimmer's track record runs too deep. He's the Godfather of the 'epic' genre. He has his own damn team of composers who work under his watch, lol.

Remote Control Productions

Some of the best film composers are all under his label:

Klaus Badelt (The original POTC composer)
Lisa Gerrard
Harry Gregson-Williams
Steve Jablonsky
John Powell
Trevor Rabin

Could someone recommend a Hans Zimmer playlist? I've probably heard most of his stuff and just not realized it was Zimmer.

TIA

The Last Samurai was a damn good piece of work! After that score, he definitely recycled bits & pieces of it into some of his future scores.

POTC 2
All of the Dark Knight movies (although James Newton-Howard had part in it)
Gladiator is a no-brainer
Inception
Hell, you can take it back to The Lion King
He doesn't get enough credit for his Prince of Egypt score, but it's absolutely phenomenal!
Thin Red Line (if you're in the reading/studying mood)
The Da Vinci Code (an entire score building up to the last couple of songs.. AMAZING )
King Arthur

And he claims he gets a lot of his influence from this guy.

Which I wouldn't doubt. Listen to his work and there is a lot of similarities.
