YUP. And SOME parents that don't give a shite about their kids are the reason some teachers have a hard time.Back to the comparison... The cops have a HUGE advantadge over teachers... ITS NOT what you know, its WHO you know.

Teachers are the most wonderful people on the planet. Theirs is the most noble of professions. We should form a union and protect them as they protect our precious snowflakes.

Teachers: Depends; if they're actual good teachers who get paid for how good they are, then yeah they deserve it, but unions won't allow that.

Law Enforcement: frick No

Oh, I needed that this morning.

Seriously, IMO, nurses are more likely to bitch about being underpaid than teachers.

unpayable pension obligations for the MFW>

20 years of service, gold plated retirement.

Ah the benefits of underpaid state service.
Try that shite in the private sector, leach shite motherfricker.

Your pensions are unpayable, from township to United States level.

The pain you feel upon realizing this will cause many of your number, especially cops, to lash out at their perceived enemies, the general public, who denied them their 'entitled' gold plated pensions.

frick that shite.

You will get the pensions you deserve.

And stay the frick out of my wallet.

re: Two state employed professions that dont make what they deserve

As a current teacher of 5 years, I can offer my own experience and opinion.

We're paid just right, and we can live very comfortable, happy lives if we have a spouse that works as well (which mine does - also a teacher with her master's degree).

I make about $41,000 a year to work from 7:30-3:15. I do not have to work weekends, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving or the days that surround it, a week and a half around Christmas, MLK Day, a full week in the spring, or two months in the summer.

I only have to work 190 days of the year. That means 175 days a year, I do not have to work! That's 175 days that I could take up a craft, get a second job, or find another way to make extra money if money is that important.

After teaching for five years (I learned this after three), it's very possible to be a good teacher that works 7:00am-3:30pm, brings work home to grade once a week, and never works on weekends.

I use my planning period efficiently. I always get to work early to prepare for the day. I always stay 30 minutes after the kids leave (they leave at 3) to clean up, make copies, get a little grading done, etc. I use the lesson plans I developed in my first years of teaching and make necessary changes to them as the year progresses. I typically spend about two weeks over the summer setting up my room and modifying plans for the year.

I understand that once you get tenured and understand how to do the job effectively, teaching is a rather easy job that does not require any more time than any other job. In fact, with the amount of time off, it requires much less time than any other salaried profession with great benefits and job security.

The problem for most teachers - especially those that complain - is that they have poor classroom management. So they think kids are difficult to deal with and make their life miserable. They lack compassion and people skills, so they think parents are devils that hamper their ability to teach. They waste time complaining about their job or gossipping to their friends. They're unorganized, so when they try to get their head above water, they can't because they can't find anything on their desk.

Then they complain that their job is too stressful for $2400/month.

Or, if they get their master's, which they can for cheap online or even for free if you go for ESL at UAB in Alabama, it's about $2700/month.

TL;DR - Teachers who are competent make the right amount of money and teachers who are incompetent need to quit complaining.

Seriously? I agree with those that say both are failing. And, I'd like to add, people who go into these professions know what they are getting into. It's widely debated that they are overworked and underpaid. And yet, people still becomes teachers and then bitch about it. If you don't like it, do something else or just STFU.

For those complaining about the education in Louisiana being terrible, the solution to this problem does not involve lowering teachers salary to punish them and their unions. Like any other profession if the salaries are higher, this will attract more talented individuals to the field. Just think about it for a second. Simple economics.

I really think when teachers get together they just vent about pay, bad kids, etc. Most aren't really complaining just have the need to bitch about something. I find myself doing that as well. I don't know many that don't enjoy their job when it comes down to it.
