Looking into getting a Browning A5. Anybody have any experience with one of the new A5's or should I just try and find a good used one?

Been hunting with one for 35 yrs. only gun I shoot. It has never, and I mean never given me one bit of trouble. Hunted hard in 80's and 90's. all my buddies shoot 3 inch, but my 2 3/4 is fine. Just Wed morning I got a double on Specs followed by 2 mallards in one shot. Had the gun re done in early 2000 by Edwardo and it looks brand new. Very special gun to me, was given to me by my dad who passed away in 86. Only thing I have from him. I will pass it on to my son.

Agreed. The new ones are designed to "look" like the old ones and that's about as far as it goes. I'm sure they are great shotguns and they look sweet, but the old ones are completely different.

The old ones kick like a mule and have a very metallic-feeling action, which is just raw and badass. If you want finesse, get the new one. If you want just raw workability, get a used old one.

Well looks like I'll be looking for a used one. My uncle actually has one of the Belgium made sweet 16s. I'll more than likely get a 12 gauge. What sort of price would I be lookin at for a decent used one?

The new A5 is an inertia gun whereas the older A5's were gas powered actions. Looks the same but performs entirely differently. A lot of Browning loyalists are pretty turned off by the new A5. The reviews are mixed but I'm sure the new A5 is a fine gun.

I'm afraid you missed on that one. A5s have always been recoil operated. The A500 was Browning's attempt at a gas operated version. I love Brownings, but that's the worst gun I've ever owned.

Oh semantics, the majority of gun owners cannot distinguish between the two and most consider the two terms to be euphamisms for one another.

I stand corrected, my apologies...
