Ok, it appears clear now that we are more than likely to be stuck with Vasquez as our starting PG for most of the season. That is just a reality whether we like it or not. We also know that there is no way he will become any faster or athletic. So what can Vasquez do to improve? And what can the team and Monty do to maximise his productivity:

Vasquez:
1. He has to improve his shooting. He is not taking many crazy shots as he used to, but very often he get clear looks, or even good penetrations where he passes the defender and then misses an easy jumper or flouter. He has got to get better at that.

2. 3 point shooting. He has taken less 3s this year, and his percentage is lower. If he manage to get to 35% and 1 to 2 3s per game that could help us.

3 learn to hang in there on a bad game. When he has a bad night, he tends to take more shots to try and compensate. Everyone has bad nights; he should just concentrate on passing the ball on those nights and trust his team to do the offensive damage.

4 Post up against shorter PG. I really think he should do this more often. Every time he does it is a basket or he gets free shots.

The team:
I think it will be crucial for us to get our big guys to convert both the open midrange shots of the pick and roll from Vasquez, and more importantly the passes under the basket. In the last 3 games there have been way too many situations when Vasquez gets Lopez or smith under the basket and they have missed easy shots, or try to do too much with the ball. These are plays by the book that we cannot afford to miss.
Monty:

Monty loves having a system and sticking to it, and I really admire him for that. With a well oil system a consistent rotation comes along. I think all that is great, but you also have to take what you are given when you are given it. Vasquez will not have a game like last every night, nor every second night, when he is inspired and the shots are coming in but the game is still close, I really think Monty should let him stay and run the offence as long as possible. If we had Gordon, it would be a different history, but as it is now, we should take every good run we can get.

What's up with these critical Vasquez posts after his best game as a hornet?

Don't get me wrong, I am a Vasquez fan, as must people know here, I am talking about getting the most we can form him, not criticizing what he has done so far

Well using the word "stuck" does not exactly make it look like you enjoy his presence.

I am under the impression that an alter just exposed himself. Who did he mean to post as? Who does it sound like?

I don't mean it in a bad way, I like Vasquez, and I want him to do well. the reason I worded it that way was to avoid all that nonsense that is around about us getting someone better in the market right now. That is just not going to happen. So when I said stuck, I meant he is our staring PG full stop. And just for the record, As I said in a thread I started before, I think we are OK with Vasquez, and PG is not our main worry at the moment.

Love this part. I think we've talked about it in the past, but it deserves to be mentioned again. Shocked the shite out of me the first time he did it, but he has some crafty post moves and with our lack of offensive creativity this could be a solid wrinkle.

Also, much love morsatun for a solid post.

He would have to somehow instantly be blessed with more talent. The guy plays hard, but he is not that good. He has trouble breaking down defenses. He cannot create offensively; he has had a lot of trouble posting up six footers. He cannot defend anyone with speed. Honestly guys, the second stringer for the Clippers (Bledsoe) is superior to Vasquez in every phase of the game. And no, Rivers isn't a point guard either.

Lol you keep posting this dumb shite about Bledsoe. Hilarious. And the rest of your post? 1/10. Try again.

So if he is so terrible how is it posible that he is 3rd in the league in assists and he is averaging almost double double numbers (13 ppg and 9 apg)?

Bledsoe would be averaging a triple double and quadrupling the the league leader in assists.

Vasquez is a classic big PG who would benefit from a smaller, quicker SG playing next to him. That way on D they could swap men. This will occur when EGKnee returns (Some reason I feel optimistic about it... maybe because I know first hand how helpful it is to strengthen everything around the knee to take the pressure off of it). That will allow him to not have to shoulder the entire load. Name one other person on the roster outside of random flashes from Rivers that can actually set someone else up. Vasquez is a winner though, he will do everything in his power to do so. He proved it in the college game and has done a pretty good job of making the right play in critical moments this season (but when 100% of the plays that needed to be made shoulder on him, he is bound to fail at times). Remember it is his 3rd year in the league and he doesn't really have a wealth of veteran talent around him. This team will have to learn how to win at this level. Hornets will have growing pains, stop fretting 6 games into the season over something small. Even Monty said it (don't feel like finding it). You need 20 or so games to really know where you stand (remember 8-0 starts turning into first round exits?). This team will get better at a quicker rate than others and the fact that they've won some tough games on the road already just proves the talent level. As far as Vasquez, when this team is healthy is the the 4th or 5th option scoring and will do his job otherwise. Quit stressing over nothing.

tl;dr
Meh
Halfway Decent
Same stuff over and over
