Some of my shits going red. Apple being one of them. I'm in for the long haul though, so I'm not selling. I'm not buying anything at the moment, but I'm still pumping my weekly auto transfer into it. I'll put that money in when I feel we are closer to the bottom.

Long term bonds, long term bonds, long term bonds For as long as they are doing QE or you want back into the market. I'm actually buying into stocks now, but I wouldn't keep my investments liquid even if I wanted to cash out.

I like Vanguard's long term bond fund myself. It's also available as an ETF if you prefer that. (BLV)

I'm going to wait for the DJ Average to drop below 11,500 and then start buying.

Why would you suggest a long-term bond/bond fund when rates will rise in the mid-term.

In my stock investment account,I still have some RE/homebuilder stocks, semiconductor ETF, and a dry bulk shipping company (this one is hopefully a multi year hold). I'm wishing I'd sold the RE a few months ago. I'm still in the green on all of those. In my speculating account I've got a starter position in gold with a little profit built in. I got stopped out of my starter platinum position overnight.

I like the dry bulk shipping play. Which company? I've been following DRYS for a while now. The Baltic Dry Shipping index has gotten hammered and DRYS is also based in Greece. Double hammered. It's highly leveraged, but it has solid investments such as ORIG.

Damn! No wonder the market is down 6% since the election. Chicken's holdings rivaled the largest hedge funds! ETA: At least that's what Rummy told me....

He has been easing out of AAPL, but still caused a short squeeze.

BDI looks like it could be putting in a long term bottom to me. I like DSX (Diana Shipping). They have essentially no debt and there fleet is relatively new ships (so low maintenance costs). Even if the shipping industry doesn't bottom til next year DSX won't fall apart like other shippers IMO. I'm not a fan of DRYS yet because of there debt load. They also have deepwater drilling units which I don't like. I think the success of the US shale plays will hurt the value of deepwater drilling contractors worldwide.

If this plays out, I have APA as a hedge against oil. Big Shale gas investments.

Rates are expected to be around the same level for about 2 and a half years. Did you miss the part about saying stay in till QE3 ends? I didn't mean literally buying a bond. Buy shares of a bond fund that you can later sell. And I didn't recommend it as a permanent long term investment. But if you are cashing out of stocks (which I don't personally advise), it'll do you far more good in a bond fund in the interim rather than something liquid getting like .5% interest.

I did it with my taxable account. But not with my roth IRA OR 401K. EVERYTHING IN MY 401K IS IN OVERSEAS INVESTMENTS....SO FAR NO PROBLEMS. i'LL DO IT WITH MY ROTH IRA ALSO IF THE NEED ARISES.
