Workout Question

I'm almost 50 and finally decided I need to get in some semblance of being in shape.

Plan is to work out 3 times a week.

Worked out first time Monday, pretty much machines, upper and lower body.

On a 3x week plan, should I alternate lower/upper, or whole body?

thanks...

re: Workout Question

i alternate lower and upper. i even break it down to 4 days. i tried a entire body workout but i didnt like it. to me it just didnt seem like i was hitting the muscles that hard.

you need to find something that works for you. if doing an entire body workout fits, then do it.

Check out the bodybuilding.com forums. They have a ton of beginner info and routines. It would also help if you posted what your goals are

This.

Don't do total body workouts in one day at your age. Break it down for sure. Also you'd be amazed what walking/jogging 2-3 days a week would do for you.

I'm 32 but I'm tellin ya....watch your form. Getting old is hell. I spend a lot of gym time on the spin bike and in the pool bc I figure those are the places I'm least likely to hurt myself

You are your own gym by mark Lauren. Its seal training that uses your own weight and household objects. My dad is 60 and in damn good shape. The book is about $8 on hamiltonbooks.com. You're welcome.

Day 1: Back, Biceps, abs
Day 2: Chest, Triceps
Day 3: Shoulders, Legs, abs

Do light weight and good form for first 3 months. See how it goes. Decide where you want to go from there. Adjust workout accordingly.

Agree 100%. I would definitely incorporate some non impact cardio. Spin, yoga, water aerobics, body weight boot camp

re: Workout Question

Thanks guys.

I'll check out the bodybuilding forums.

For a beginning plan, I took Loco's advice, and made yesterday the Chest and Tricep day.

As to my goal, simply to get most of my muscles working mostly the way they're supposed to... My livelihood depends on me showing up every day and being able to function.

Next step is to eat better... one thing at a time...
