Those failing a test would be denied benefits for 12 months, or until they completed a drug treatment program. Don't particulary like this part. Who pays for the treatment? In addition, I do not agree with the 12 months. Should be final.

Why do you look down upon that notion hack? Almost every EMPLOYER requires it in the modern world, why not for the status of leech to be valid?

Yes, if companies require it for employment benefits, then we should require it for unemployment benefits.

Exactly...... But if you extend that burden to the welfare maggots who can't get a job because they can't pass a piss test it's discriminatory. Continuing to let these bastards stay on welfare is just enabling their dope habit.

Why should companies require it for employment, excepting positions that work with hazardous materials or equipment? If a receptionist wants to smoke a joint on her own time, that shouldn't be her employer's business.

The employer should be able to set whatever guidelines he/she deems important. Who are you to say what an employer should be able to consider?

Employees generate revenue for employers. If the employer deems it necesary to test for drugs to protect the bottom line then it is definitely "their business". I am sure that hemp shop owners do not test since drug use most likely improves their revenue instead of hinder it.

It affects their ability to be gainfully employed and therefore, extends the duration of collecting unemployment benefits. Should someone who is disqualified from a job opening for failing a drug test receive unemployment benefits?

I wouldn't mind a drug test, but I also want our legislators to get tested too. Too often they vote themselves exceptions that regular people are required to do.

If an employer thinks employees shouldn't waste so much of their free time on the internet, should he be able to put a tracking device on their smartphone?

I like the idea in theory but it will only end up costing us more to drug test every individual than we would save by ending benefits. Now if you don't care about the fiscal aspect of drug testing and only want to end unemployment benefits, welfare, other social benefits, then it's not a bad idea. But if you are simply trying to save money then it's not so good.

Stupid. The real drugs that cause most of the social problems: meth, crack, coke are all undetectable in a hours to a few days. Only pot has a lingering half-life to catch a user. And it's about the most innoccuous drug I can think of. But hey! Now you know why David Dewhurst lost his bid for Senate... he's anything but a small government politician.

Stupid and a violation of the 4th Amendment.... Should college students be subject to random drug test if they are receiving scholarships? It sounds good but it is a slippery slope and something the gov't shouldn't be able to do.

This. Less than three percent failed the test. LINK Also the walk in clinic they required the applicants use was owned by Gov. Scott and his family. No conflict of interest there.
