What fans of other SEC teams wouldn't mind seeing Gruden end up at Tennessee?

I want Tennessee to be made strong enough that Bama wants to change their permanent SEC-E opponent. If Gruden accomplishes that, so be it.

yeah, just hire someone to give bama a challenge so their joke of an SEC-E schedule changes.

im not sure gruden is that guy. i think the biggest thing he brings to the table is a personality and big name that should be able to pay dividends in the recruiting world. as a coach, i dont know if he brings more to the table then some of the other guys on the list. tenn ultimately needs a strong recruiter to have a chance in the sec though.

Just want to see another celebrity type at UT. Lane brought so much fun and entertainment into the conference.

Not worried about scheme. He's going to have to dumb down his O drastically and will likely hire an NFL guy at DC. As long as you have a dynamic college offense you'll be fine. I mean look at how his step-dad Monte has done defending the spread.

hes doesnt scare me at all. i just think its a lose/lose situation for tenn. he either sucks and doesnt change the program and they have to turn over the coaching staff again, or chucky has some success and constantly flirts with the NFL every off season, ala saban during his LSU tenure.

we are talking about a guy whos spent a huge chuck of his coaching career in the national football league. his last college coaching job? 20 years ago as WR coach. what makes anyone think hes just going to light up recruiting in a recruiting challenged state like tennessee? its not like a GA or LA or TX where you can lean on local talent. surround him with college coaches/ recruiters you say? hows he going to have a contact list of those type of guys? you dont run into them in the NFL

but he does have nicknames for every player hes ever coached against, so he has that going for him, which is nice.

Meh, if he goes to UT he's likely choosing that over NFL options.

Unlike Kiffin, who never earned what he's gotten thus far, Gruden is a proven commodity as a coach. Can he be successful in the college ranks? Absolutely.
Pluses:
1. He's still young enough to have energy to pull the long hours away from home when recruiting.
2. He won a Lombardi trophy; he needs a BCS (or whatever the hell they'll call after next year) to put him the ranks of Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer (the only 2 coaches to have ever done this).
3. His personally alone will bring recruits in that the team would never have had a shot at.
4. By all accounts, his Xs and Os are solid.

I'd like to see him in the SEC...why not!

It would pretty immediately put Tennessee above Miss St. As an LSU fan, even though Gruden is a very good coach, it wouldn't worry me too much.

Not really a concern either way. We play them next in what? 12 years? Gruden would be gone by then.

I would much rather see the Vols hire Gruden than get the next Kevin Sumlin. The Aggies are going to be a pain in the arse to deal with for years to come because they have a hungry young coach looking to prove himself. I don't want to see that at Tennessee.

It would definitely hurt Bama's recruiting. Even if it's only a year or two that Gruden could flash his super bowl ring around and sign kids, it would still set Bama back a year or two. They couldn't replace lost top talent in the south with spare parts from around the country. That's just my $.02.
