Same.. we are fixing to punch out 6 day work weeks until the end of the year.

Fckk.. no gaming time. Good thing, college football is almost done. Won't be missing many games.

No need to, it has been proven all the bandwidth is not yet used for pci 2.0 yet.

Probably will take 2 refresh cycles of GPUs for this to happen.

So dumb question then but running a 3.0 pci card like my 7950 on a pci 2.0 Mobo won't give it performance issues or anything?

I really only play PC games, for me I enjoy the picture quality/graphics on PC. Also, you can play with an XBox gamepad on almost every game out there.

I'm the opposite. While I certainly love the quality and graphics you can find in a PC title, it's the old fashioned keyboard and mouse that keeps me from consoles. I honestly don't get it when people play PC games with console controls. I always want to yell, "frick the thumbs man, don't you know you can use your whole hands and arms with a trusty keyboard and mouse!?"

Hell no.

The bandwidth isn't there yet. Believe to utilize a 3.0 PCIe the cards have to be 512-bit.

That is 2 refresh cycles away.

ETA:
Let me edit to say, maybe 1 more cycle as people believe nVidia's 7 series will be 512bit for the 770 and 780 GTXs.

How are those 12.11 drivers? They are kicking kepler arse in benchmarks now.

FPS/MMO/RPG games I use the Keyboard/Mouse

Racing/Fighters/Action RPG I use the Xbox controller

I play about 80/20 Keyboard to Gamepad.

Techpowerup did a pretty good test/review that summed it up. They tested FPS on the most popular 3.0 cards in 3.0 slots and in 2.0 slots. The FPS was negligible and inconsistent between the two. Sometimes, the card showed a 1fps gain in a 2.0 slot. They even tested some in PCIe 1.1, as well as at 4x, 8x, and 16x, and there was negligible difference. .1 to 1fps or so... Standard deviation would have to be higher than that, so it just shows that PCIe 3.0 means jack shite. It's like connecting a mechanical hard drive to a SATA 3 port.

That type of bandwidth really applies to work over time. Like workstations/folders/bionics.

Things like that. Systems that run 24/7 doing calculations is were you will see the increase in performance.

As for a bottleneck or bandwidth being restricted, I think the PCIe 3.0 is and will be best used by 512bit GPUs.

None the less, like you said.. there is really no difference in performance between the 2.

Ooh, good point. I want to see a test in average hashrates across platforms over, say, a week of 24/7 mining.

No, but I'm probably going to join soon. I've been a member of extreme overclocking forums for about 8 years, but it's declined severely and is all but dead.

Same here lol

I would jump back and forth since I started on forums in 2006. ExtremeOverclocking seems to have a dead community now. Haven't really been there since Sandy release.

I am RationalThinking on OCN.

I know you aren't talking about it in this regards but mining with GPUs is about to be dead. ASIC tech coming this month

Ah nice, can't view image shack pictures at work.

I have 1 240mm and 1 200mm RADs for just my CPU. IDK if I will ever do it again, lol. Ton of work, plus I hate downtime on my gaming rig since I have little time to play as it is.

Since it is winter and most ppl bench during the winter.

Might start a TD benchmark thread just for bragging rights or send someone a game code/hardware.

You will just have to post 3D Mark 11 screenshot and validation with what ever config we decide to go with.

Would be pretty fun.
