I have lost all faith in the SyFy Channel (BSG related)

I have just recently watched the first two webisodes of Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, the prequel to the 2004 series, and I can't believe SyFy is actually going to sit on it and not take it to series.
For those of you who have yet to see the first two episodes of Blood & Chrome they can be found here and here.
SyFy is no longer about science fiction anymore. They have their wrestling and their stupid little reality TV and reduce one of their biggest cash cows to a freaking webisode. It just pisses me off.

Same with History Channel, Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, Travel Channel, The Gaming Channel, Independent Film Channel and more. I think I saw some white boys on BET last night too.
We need tougher truth in labeling laws in this country. I think Bobby Jindal is going to include them in his 2016 Presidential campaign.

I think TLC is the "True Life Channel" now. I think Tota-Lee Crap Channel is more accurate.

Fwiw Syfy is going to show blood and chrome as a movie in 2013 and if the ratings are good they may do something with it. The fact of the matter is these shows don't get the ratings to keep them on tv

Also FWIW Alphas, Haven, Being Human and Warehouse 13 are four of the best shows on tv

Supposedly chrome was always going to be web-based. This will be released in January on tv as a two-hour movie and released on DVD in February.

FWIW the wrestling should be leaving SyFy soon enough. Their contract is soon up and Smackdown will probably be on the new WWE network. So they'll be able to show reruns of Sharktopus and other well reviewed sci-fi movies. Looking forward to the new BSG series if it gets picked up.

I just wish that one night a week they would just show some 50s and 60s B movies.

I don't curse on here often but...
frick you Syfy. Seriously.
This is good stuff. I realize Caprica took a way different tone, but it was good. I also understand cancelling it.
But not picking this up? Again, frick you.

The ratings aren't there, you wont get a show, that being said, they are releasing this as a movie to see the ratings, to see if it's going to be a show.. settle down people.

Still generally about the dumbest way to "get ratings." You don't get ratings in one shot, our ADD culture doesn't attach that quickly. How many great shows wouldn't we have because it didn't have ratings on the pilot? Seinfeld? Cheers" The X-Files?

No. For a channel called Syfy, they are generally pathetic. They have a high intensity space-action show with a solid cast and great universe and there's a question whether or not they should air it? It would be the only sci-fi action show on television.
Moar wrestling!!!

Their downfall started when they changed thr name.

Na it was before that.
I mean, I admit, they go for reality television and hack programming.
Sci-Fi should be the first of new breed channels:
Become a premium channel suite (like HBO), with a main channel and one dedicated to sci-fi classics and their reality programming.
At the same time, find that SAME price point, and make an app/subscription service.
Tier out the extra-cable subscription service to include pieces/types of content. Or maybe even price to watching habits.
Profit.

Those contracts are going away, no more of this.

They tried to have SGU stick around as long as it could, even with faltering ratings, just didn't work and it finally got cancelled. I'm probably about to get hammered for this, but I've actually been watching SyFy a bit more lately because of Alphas, Warehouse 13, Haven, etc. and could never get into BSG.. I would love another Stargate type show, but BSG just isn't my fancy, and I don't think it was a lot of people's fancy, because it's never had a "comeback."

There is a question whether they should air it, by the end BSG was scrapping the bottom of the barrel on ratings, yes, while I agree with everyone that the old Nielsen ratings are archaic and need to go, that doesn't stop them from existing, and they do and only getting a 1.8 Million demo for such an expensive show to make.. doesn't pay the bills.
Getting a 1.4 rating on an in-house show such as Alphas though, pays the bills, and keeps those shows going.

There was not one Character on Caprica that you could get behind and like. They all were miserable people. I think this is the main reason it failed.

That's why I liked the show and it also explains why Adama grew up to become such a good person. He saw what his family was and he didn't want any part of it.
