I'll be there from Tuesday-Friday next week for work. What are y'alls best recommendations?

Shapley's Steak House is the real deal. Excellent steaks and service. Big wine list. Light years better than Tico's.

Rossini - Italian place in Ridgeland (just north of Jackson). Also, very good.

Char - really good duck entree, cool bar.

La Guadalupe - inexpensive tacqueria. Very good tacos and queso. If it's on company dime, I'd probably skip this place though.

Anjou - French food. Great wine list. Cheese plate and tuna entree are notables.

Local 463 - in Madison. Really good halibut special on the menu last week. Service is hit or miss but the food is really solid.

Hope you enjoy some good meals in Jackson.

Walker's Drive In is top notch. Shapley's gets great press. I like Char. Great sushi at a joint just up Frontage from Char but I can't remember the name.

I would agree with all plus Walker's Drive-in. Tico's is not even close to Shapley's.
You need to check out Ely's as well. Great Steak but pricey.

All the suggestions are greatly appreciated!

So Shapleys is generally considered better than Ticos? Or are they essentially the same?

This might be random, but any good cigar/pipe tobacco places in Jackson?

I'd like to throw in Table 100 as well. I went and ate and drank there on a Thursday night last week for the first time and it was pretty good. Lively crowd in the bar too.

I recommend Shapley's for steaks, Local 463 in Madison for an upscale lunch, Kents cajun kitchen in Madison for real New Orleans food, Walkers for great variety of fine dining, Mermaid cafe, Mint, or Char for wide variety of good eats. Also, a nice gem is Strawberry Cafe in Madison, they have a great variety of food choices.

Also, if you want some great bbq ribs, Frisco deli has the best! Trace grill is also a good option for good lunch food especially if you like gourmet burgers.

Not even close. Shapley's blows away Tico's and Ruth Chris in the Jackson area for steaks!

Enough talk about Jackson's finest; let's get down to real-people food.

I'll open with Tony's Tamales on Woodrow Wilson... ETA it appears that even they've moved to Ridgeland, in the old Seattle Drip hut on the corner of Old Canton and Lake Harbour.

Speaking of S-D, are any of their places still open?

Shapley's may have a better steak but nothing beats smoking a cigar on the porch of Tico's after a great meal ...
