I don't think I'm stupid but I was alive in 84 and I don't remember there being any cell phones. At least nobody I knew had one and they certainly weren't free.
First cell phone I saw was at my Uncles wedding in New Orleans. He was marrying into money and the brides father had a cell phone and was showing it off I was big and huge and cost him a thousand or so. I don't remember exactly how much but everyone said it was a lot.
That was early 90s or late 80s I want to say.
I don't know I was young back then but I imagine if Reagan would have told more people about the free cell phones in 84 he probably could have gotten even more votes.

The first "cell phone" I remember was car phone one of my partners had in the late 80's or so. It was the size of a fricking volleyball if I remember correctly.
