I was set up in a lock on planning for a shot to the left. He came out at 30 yards to my right. I had to stand and turn as quickly and quietly as possible. I pulled that off. I draw, aim, mouth call, he stops, I shoot, Whack! I hit a limb. He jumped a little then slowly walked off, showing how big he was.

He was about a low 140s 8-9. wide, tall, good mass. everything you want.

I stood there trying to figure out what happened. I realized that when seated, the limb is not in my line of view at all. once I saw him I instantly stood and didn't look at him again except through my peep. I couldn't see the limb through my peep. :bandhead:

I looked just in case but no luck. At least it was a clean miss and I didn't injure him or run him out of there. Hopefully he'll be back.

He shall return. No flag and didn't smell you, you're most likely good.

I haden't seen a deer in my last few hunts and the good bucks weren't showing up on camera. I was getting a little worried because this should be kicking off right now.

that's what Im hoping. the bitch of it is that after i shot, he walked right by my old stand location. I just moved it last week because I thought I didn't have enough cover It would have been a clear as day 20 yard shot.

Damn that sucks, but at least you didn't place a bad shot and wound a fine deer.

He will be back and I can't wait to see pics of him when he does.

I missed mine two years ago. Fist one I had missed with a rifle in 15 years. I still hate thinking about that evening.

too high to get to it. I keep replaying it in my head. If I had turned and sat, the limb wouldnt be in my way.

That sucks man. Sadly I've missed 3 animals so far with the bow this year from tree stands. I've actually decided to put the bow down for deer hunting this season. I'm gonna build a 15 and 20 ft tall platform and practice at elevation for a year before i take another shot on a deer with it. I plan to shoot as many hogs as possible with my bow between now and then also. Gonna be in stand in am with the 308 though.

yeah, it didnt set in until later because I kept hoping he would come back. Now I keep replaying it and seeing what I should have done and how easy it would have been to make the shot.

Hate to hear that Diesel.

My annual hunting week started off also with mixed results. Shot just over the back of what I thought was a decent 8 with a drop tine. He flinched after the shot and continued to make his scrape 25 yds to my right. I know he was only 25 because I shot him for 34 at mid lung n missed! LOL. Luckily while I nocked another arrow he raieed up on his rear legs n hit the branches anove it giving me a better look. Nice 3 1/2 but needs another year. And no drop tine... Must have been his ear or something in the dim light that Mistook for a drop tone. Anyway he walked away and I was happy for the clean miss. Later saw a cull 5 pt and shortly afterwards good sized doe that I took from 12 steps with a perfect frontal quartering shot through the boiler room

2-blade Rage FTW!!!! :)

Have faith... Your big boy will return. Just cut the damn limb before he shows again!!! LOL
