True, For me, once it was confirmed that everybody turns, it just seemed to take away all hope for me. Yeah the possibility of a cure exists, but with virtually 0 modern medicinal facilities (that we know of anyway) I think the chance of finding a cure is slim to none,

There might be dead ends in subsequent seasons in quests for a cure but you have to figure the series will end with either the last man standing dying, a cure or some fake-out where a cure is perceived but hints of fail emerge. The me the immediate question is how long will it take for the existing zombies to starve to death? Once they are stable at the prison there should be regular hunting parties to kill as many zombies as possible each day in the surrounding area.

Gonna get real with this post, but if this were a real world, then it's modern day getting transported back to pretty much the middle ages.

What I mean is that there is basically no civilization with government and goes straight back to a monarchy/dictatorship. People on their own will fend for themselves.

By showing that a healthy baby can still be spawned in this world gives hope for life going forward. To get back to "normal" life, they would have to kill every zombie around. This would take a hell of a long time and I'm also not sure if already dead people awoke during the apocalypse or if it was just the living that died who would turn.

Anyway if they could kill every zombie (at least in the substantial surrounding area), then life could go on by going back to basics and they would just have to instantly destroy the brain of people who die.

That's the point though. Conditions out there are so brutal.

And the fact that when the humans die they make zombies, no matter how many zombies you kill, they'll be more and more.

EXCEPT in episode 3 you see that scientist say that zombies get weaker over time w/o any food. That means zombies in remote areas are dying.

Also, if life can be sustained like the governors little area, it only takes 9 months to make a new person. Unless its a freak accident, it will take 40-80 years for a person to die of natural causes and become a zombie. After even a few years you could start the re-growth pretty quickly

I forgot all about that. Definitely World War Z'ish. So they should spend a few years strengthening their group, gathering supplies, and then head to the Smokies.

From what they have presented in the plot, it appears that zombies were created from living things infected with the virus or whatever it is. There's no evidence for instance that bodies in graves rose from the dead.

If this was real... and what happened in Walking Dead starts happening tomorrow, do you think society would break down as fast?

I have a hard time believing that it would, I think the disease would be quarantined a lot more quickly, and people would realize fast that people come back as zombies after they die and dispose of the dead properly.

Again, talking strictly in terms of the show, with slow, dumb zombies... seems that it wouldn't be too hard to fight them back.

The show is finally at this point. The Zombies aren't the real threat anymore, it's the living that's the problem.

we really don't know the extent to which it has broken down since we really only have a few people's perspectives

I didn't think that zombies where attracted to dead flesh, at least in TWD. That was the ONLY thing that bothered me.

im also bothered by the idea that this hardened criminal was able to kill a nice sized deer in the woods with nothing but an axe

guys on the outdoor board would totally love to be able to do that shit

True, but they have gone almost a year since the outbreak started and have had minimal outside contact. Rick traveled 1,000 miles or so and presumably didn't encounter anyone until he got to Atlanta.

I'm sure there would be pockets of people all over the world, though. Especially in more isolated places.

my only issue is the military bases being overrun. i just think they would react quicker and defend better than most z movies estimate

Yeah, I don't see a legitimate military base being overrun too easily in this scenario, even if a few people inside panic and try to run and a few walkers get in. Now, maybe if a few people inside commit suicide and turn... maybe a threat from within like that, but still seems unlikely.

The biggest spread occurs early on when you don't know what's up and people are still trying to help/treat the zombies.

For some reason I thought they started in Michigan... but shite it's been a while since I've watched the pilot.

I don't think they ever left Georgia, but I was wrong once before.

?? No man, they started outside of Atlanta. I would like to see them make a trek and get into some other parts of the country.

Not sure why I thought that... I actually watched Season 2 first, then went back and caught season 1 and could have sworn Rick/Lori/Shane were from up north... guess it wasn't that far north.

In that case, it begs the question, in all their driving around between seasons 2 and 3, why didn't he try to get back and look for Morgan?

Well it would obviously be chaos and once communication gets lost then I think it would go like how it is in the show with small groups of survivors.

Once a group finds a strong hold(the prison or Woodbury), then it could act as how a castle would in the middle ages with a king.

I did have a hard time believing the military would get overrun so easily, especially a base. Like in one of the episodes in the 1st season, the dead soldier in a tank didn't seem like it would happen because how the frick is a tank going to get overrun by zombies? Run their asses over.
