I know several people who were born and raised in Louisiana but for one reason or another just hate LSU. They always have and always will. Most of them are just shite stirrers who like to argue about everything. Some have even latched onto other teams (usually Bama) and become "fans" of that team.

Do you think they will ever know how "real fans" of a team feel when their team wins or loses? Will they ever get goosebumps when the band plays a few notes in their home stadium? Will they lose their voice yelling for 3 hours during a big game?

It just seems like a big waste to fake loyalty to a team just because you pretend to hate their rival.

I've seen plenty of people say you shouldn't be or aren't a real fan of a college team if you didn't attend the university

But I was born and raised about an hour from BR and an hour from the Superdome so I'm an LSU and Saints fan. It's just more fun to root for the home team when you can actually attend the games. Of course I live in Atlanta now but 8 years here won't erase 24 years of growing up a homer.

Oh, and I've never played for either team but I still say "we" and "us" and IDGAF what anyone thinks. I'll also wear a jersey to the Dome when I go and again, IDGAF what anyone says b/c I'm a grown arse man and I'll wear WTF I wanna wear.

To me, that's like being unamerican. Does not compute.

Those same people were "fans" of Texas ~2005, and when they were kids they were FSU/Miami/Michigan/Notre Dame "fans" during the 80's.

They don't have a true team, it's just go with the popular choice. When I talk to somebody like this, I rarely ever discuss sports with him/her because it's pointless and almost always invariably turns into an "LSU sucks" conversation.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. We have lived in the ATL for almost 17 years. But home is where your heart is. Period.

more times than not, it's people who have ties to schools like Tulane, ULL, ULM, McNeese, etc.

and it's just a hate crime when LSU fans don't give a shite about the New Orleans Bowl

The word you're looking for here is "contrarian".

I did not attend LSU actually went to ULL, but there has never been a time in my life that LSU was not my team. Even through the misery of the 90s I never wavered. I have a friend who during that period was a big Miami fan, and now wants to consider himself a LSU fan. I'm always telling him you are a Miami fan quit acting like you have always been for the tigers.

I have a friend of friends on Facebook who I suspect is this way. She always comments when my friends start a status about LSU. She claims to be a Bama fan even though she has probably never left the state if Louisiana. She also calls LSU "LSUX" which is about the most clever thing I've ever seen.

These people are usually women. I know two of them. I've gotten several ROLL TIDE comments this season from them. One actually put out the effort last season to order a shirt online from every LSU opponent to wear on Saturday's to get a reaction.

It's annoying, but I've learned to not give the attention and reaction they seek. Neither of the ones I know are football fans period. Can't name one thing about Alabama besides Saban being their coach. I'd rather save my energy for real Alabama fans.

Should all people from NOLA be Tulane fans? Everyone from Lafayette root for ULL? North La all be Tech or ULM fans?

The one's that are band wagon hoppers and contrarians for the sake of it are extremely annoying, but I don't think just because some one is born in La they should be obligated to be LSU fans.

I worked with someone like that. So I guess you can't be a CFB fan from 1-21ish.

I'm talking about people who hate LSU just for the sake of starting crap. My wife is a SLU alum but is a huge LSU fan. Some people aren't fans of LSU but don't hate them just to be contrarian.

No it is just how some people are. They steer away from everything that is crammed down their throat in an early age.

When i was young all my friends were either Texas or A&M fans. I grew toward LSU. Also everyone was Cowboys fans and i grew to the Saints. Now most of my friends are from NOLA i route for the Cowboys in front of them because it is hilarious how mad they get.
