The drum line plays something on third down and the students wave their hands to it. Student section does not yell as loud and early on critical third downs as a consequence.

Any thoughts?

trust me, if it's a very crucial third down, you won't be able to hear the drumline.

That's played on the other team's 4th down.

3rd down is "Eye of the Tiger". (The whole band plays, not just the drumline, if I understand what you're talking about.)

Maybe he's talking about that short little drum cadence that I think is done after a sack or tfl

this isn't it. It's a longer one that loops and has claps in the middle.

Jet, 3rd down on defense, not offense.

It's called LSU Groove. Sometimes the band plays its slow, sometimes fast. The students wave their hand from left to right in a sort of wave motion and clap twice at the end. Been doing it for a long time.

I know which one he's talking about. It's the one where everyone claps, basically waves their hand in a circle, claps twice, and then a few more beats.

I don't think it's a big deal. They stop when the teams line up. The student section will have time to get get plenty loud to disrupt the play.

I love when the band plays that. It's awesome that we don't use the damn Darth Vader theme from Empire Strikes Back like so many other schools do. Chinese Bandits is unique to LSU!

I'm a student, and I agree with this. Most of the other students are too busy doing the hand waving and clapping rather than yelling.

OP is talking about yelling before they reach the line-the biggest weakness to our crowd noise efforts in BR-to interfere when the opponent's play comes in.

I have it from an old Tigerrama CD. That's what it was listed as.
