After watching Benji I had no idea all those good players came from Chicago. Seems like people make NYC out as the best basketball city. How does Chicago compare to NYC in basketball?? Seems like more great NBA players are from the Chicago area compared to NYC.

Yep. I believe Wade and Garnett were also from Chitown too.

Yeah along with Dwayne Wade, Isiah Thomas, Tim Hardaway, Terry Cummings, Michael Finley, Jeff Hornacek, Antoine Walker, Maurice Cheeks, and others.

ETA: I've found a list of about 25+ "street" ball legends from Chicago but I never heard of em so I'm not going to list them.

The only thing I knew about Chicago basketball was from "Hoop Dreams". I know they love that city ball league and the winner goes down to the University of Illinois to play in the state tournament.

Garnett is from South Carolina. I think he only played one year of high school basketball in Chicago.

NbA TV actually had a discussion on this. Shaq, c Webb, Barkley, Reggie miller, Kenny smith, Steve smith, etc.

Most of them ranked the top 4 as: NY, Detroit, Cali, Chicago. California has the most guys in the nba, though.

Rose, Davis, and Wade (part of his childhood) grew up in the same neighborhood.

Ah okay. I know Deandre Liggins (with the Thunder now) is from Chicago but played all of his high school ball at Findlay Prep in Nevada.

Why does California get the entire state? Did you mean to say LA?

honestly i think that NYC gets the edge because MJ, Dr. J, and Kareem all were born in NYC.

from a yahoo article on top 10 players from NYC.

Jordan
Kareem
Dr. J
Melo
Bernard King
Billy Cunningham
Charlie Scott
Bob Lanier
Elton Brand
Stephon Marbury (should have left him out)

that is a sick top 5....imo no city competes with that.

Jordan shouldn't be listed under NYC IMO.

I guess that means Louisiana gets Bill Russell.

No, on the segment they specifically said California. I wondered the same thing.

LA produces a lot of talent, however.

That is pretty stupid. Congrats to California (pop. 37,691,912) for having more players in the NBA than a city I guess.
