Before I post, I preface with I have not read all of the post but from what I can gather, there is a lot of conversation on Mett. First of all, the passing scheme is very elementary. You could say "well, it is elementary because of what the quarterback can understand?"....possibile. But hear me out. South Carolina interception...until the A & M game, when LSU lines up in I-Pro, it was a straight drop and the routes were either slants to both sides or the 9 yard out route to both sides. When a CB does not have the fear of being beat deep and the route combo's are that simple, good CB's are going to jump that route. On top of that, the TE is not released which makes things even easier for the defense. Mett did choose to throw the pass, but as a coach you can use other routes that will not allow the jump to occur...well, vs AM they did, Verticals..They were open and they were over thrown. However, the threat of the vertical passing game worked because AM backed people out of the box. As I have talked about before, its all about the numbers. Now the numbers are favorable in the box to run the ball BUT the play calling is still passes. The coaching staff is doing very very little to help this QB out. Most (dont have exact percentage) passing plays ONLY have 2 receivers on the route. There has been several times that these receivers wind up in the exact same spot (mostly on bootlegs); Mett throws the ball into the stands and the crowd boos.

I would also like to add that there are conservative play calls that can be made to get players out of the box. Bubble screens are something to consider again. This too is all about numbers..If an offense is in trips, defense has to have 3 defenders in the area to play bubble or else they are outnumbered. Screens to the RBs have been effective but run very little. One more thing, if you are going to be a running team, why not utilize your play action passing game more. It helps both aspects.

Look, Mett misses wr's and misses some blitz pick ups, but that is expected from a QB starting for the first time in his college career. Remember what Jarret Lee did in his first few starts at LSU. Moving on, the passing game has been inconsistent at WR, at protection and at QB. So how could we be better? IN MY OPINION, I feel like when you play Idaho, North Texas, etc...if you are going to keep the first O-Line in until the middle of the 4th Q, you should be throwing the ball, especially with a young QB. The only way a young receiving core and QB and his line get better is by repetition. Point being, do not wait until you are trailing in a ball game (when defenses are pinning there ears) to try and work your passing game. Mett can obviously throw the football and getting a kid to believe in himself is part of coaching. Game plan, give him easy throws early, let him build confidence and see what happens.... Example of this philosphy executed to perfection was the national championship game. HUGE question mark was could AJ McCarron throw the ball....The OC used his reputation of Richardson and his running game to make it happen. Several of the passes were so short he could have handed the ball to his receivers..but from there, McCarron has been a way above average QB with a championship ring on his finger. Boy, would it be nice to see the roles reversed on Nov 3rd.

tl, wish i hadn't read.

Same crap that has been regurgitated on here ad nauseam.

And the OP is pretty much anti-Miles based on previous posts...and I tend not to take these people seriously anyway.

We've done that....WR drops or incompletes or ints.

Good in theory, but you are forgetting that Bama has had the best OL in CFB the past 2 years. Mett has had good protection in the last two games only. Passing and playcalling get much easier if you don't have to keep the TEs and RBs in to protect.
