Does there seem to be a lot of domestic family pet dogs being shot by cops or is it just that we're seeing all of them across the country? My dog is loose in my house and rides with me in my truck just about everywhere I go. He is a large athletic Chesapeake and I'm sure you know the rest but he has never bit anyone. If a cop shot my dog I'm not sure what id do but they better keep that pistol handy. What do y'all think all this and what would your immediate reaction be?

Our perception of dogs is thrown by the fact that we own them.

My BIL is a plastic surgeon, and can't stand black labs because alot of his emergency work is on little kids who have been bitten by them in the face.

That said, he also knows the numbers for black labs are through the roof, which gives a misleading statistic.

But if a dog shot my black lab?, ......I don't know. I might just drop dead of a heart attack.

I have a chocolate lab who has a bad habit of running up to people barking. Once he gets there he does the typical lab jump up in the air, wagging his tail, "look at me, I'm a dog!!! Do you have a treat?" routine. He even does this to my parents who he has known since he was a puppy. I can see where it could be disconcerting to anyone that doesn't know him, so we rarely let him go into the front yard unless we are loading up to go somewhere. He has never bitten anyone, but the full speed running and barking is what he does.

My fear is that he would do this to a cop and that would be that. I would still be really pissed.
