Mett Will Continue to Struggle and It's Become Obvious to Me

Let me preface this by saying I didn't watch every snap from our earlier games. I'm as big an LSU fan as anyone, but it's hard to really delve into all the 4th quarter snaps against the Little Sisters of the Poor. However, I have watched each of our last three games twice, and something has become very evident to me.
Our coaching staff doesn't trust Mett's ability to read a defense.
Before you disagree with this statement allow me to explain my reasoning behind it. As everyone knows, our offense is based on a power running attack. We want to hammer it at an opponent and take a few, selective shots in the passing game, primarily just to keep them honest.
Now when you run this type of offense, it's very obvious and accepted by pretty much everyone that the counter to it is a strong play action attack. This brings me to the most troubling aspect of our offense, and it's something I've noticed primarily in the last two games.
We hardly ever run play action, and I'm pretty sure I know why.
I don't think this coaching staff believes in Mett's ability to read a defense. They don't trust him to turn his back to the defense on a run fake, turn his head back to the defense, and diagnose the coverage. You also see this lack of faith in the predominant use of quick slants where a QB's read requirement is largely pre-snap if any at all. Hell even when we run 5 or 7 step drops it's usually in a 1 or 2 man route combo where the goal is a deep route on a double move. Once again this allows the QB to virtually lock onto one receiver as opposed to having to scan the defense.
I noticed this in the USC game, and it's become shockingly apparent during the Texas A&M game. If it doesn't change quickly (and by quickly I mean in 2 weeks) then we have no chance to beat Bama.

How do I make it stop?

thanks I had no clue

when he does fake the hand off (rarely) he looks so awkward that surely the D isn't fooled. he half heartedly kind of lunges at the RB while ducking his head. i'm thinking why bother? i don't see why a fake hand off is that difficult. i may be way off base and i damn sure hope i am but there is definately something wrong. i would not be surprised to see rivers get some time. again, i'm not trying to start anything, he just looks wierd out there.

It's pretty difficult to complete passes when your only two options are both double covered

Kinda like they were doubled covered when he threw 6 feet over the head of the 5 wide open recievers

you and everyone else will be all over his nuts once he has a good game.

Why does everyone who treats the Rant like their personal blog always suck balls?

Sounds like 99% of every other college football team with a fairly new QB.

And all the drops? He's close to producing like y'all all want. It looks a lot closer now than at the start of the season

Sorry.
Can't buy the OP.
Even HS qb's can make these simple reads.
The poor execution on fakes reflects poor coaching and laziness.
Mett may have limited experience w/ play action, if he's accustomed to pro sets, but he's had time to learn it.

Thanks for the insight. You have certainly contributed more than the other assclowns that showed up in your thread.

It is what it is at this point. Hang on for the ride and see where it takes us. Obsessing over Mett's shortcomings only leads to frustration. If our D shuts them down and we get a break or two, we'll have a chance to win it. If not, we won't.

I would.
Miles wants a game manager in a QB. Hell, he won't run up the score even when he has a chance to. LSU is currently 7-1. He's got 8 games into Mett. He's not changing horses now particularly due to the fact that Mett needs the work. Every snap holds value. Miles cares about winning and we are winning. Zach will get better GIVEN THE TIME ON THE FIELD. He cannot improve from the bench.

I'd expect to see Bolden before Rivers bc mobility and experience.

Mett isn't going to lose any PT

I agree with this completely. How can the offense not have the play-pass with this running game. Why did they bring ZM to LSU? Why on earth did he not get every available snap last year? Only the STAFF can answer that.
