On further review the LSU (passing) offense is really bad

First, congratulations to the team for a hard fought win on the road against a game aTm team.
Beginning with the most important position on the field, the LSU QB has been largely a liability for years after Matt Flynn left. That is a long time. Another poster claimed that Manziel tried, unsuccessfully, to get LSU's attention. If that is true, then it is another CLM failure at the most important position on the field.
ZM has not played well. He has missed open receivers, especially with the deep ball. If he makes most of those throws, LSU wins by comfortable margins. The passing game is of no help in the red zone in no small part to ZM's limitations. He is able to create almost nothing with a broken play. He looks very slow.
How is it that La. Tech. scores 57 against the Ag? Part of the answer is that they have a QB who can make some plays i.e. reads and throws and can extend plays, something ZM has limited ability to do.
As if that were not enough, the receivers have dropsy. Maybe a Rantard has some statistics on dropped passes by the receivers, but this year seems to stand out. As with ZM, if they catch most of those passes, LSU wins by nice margins and maybe beats UF. Moreover, they do not get open so much as one would hope. They are below average in terms of production.
Finally, play selection has been puzzling. A fullback belly play on third and two gets stuffed, a movie LSU fans have seen frequently over the past couple of years. CLM appears to put little faith in the pass when it must work. Most DCs understand this and game plan accordingly. It will not be possible for the run game to be successful against 9 in the box.
Ironically, this is exactly where this team was last year (actually it is in worse shape). I imagine that Saban understands this and will force LSU to pass it-not a brilliant conclusion. Does anyone think that if it cannot pass successfully, that the LSU offense will just line up and blow the 'Bama defense off the line? Didn't think so.
So, CLM has had 9 months to sort this out. All indicators are that he has not in the least made any progress in this area. Nov. 3rd will reveal a lot.

quote:What makes you think Manziel would be productive at LSU? We have already brought in numerous highly-rated passers (Lee, Jefferson, Mett) to no avail. Maybe it's something in the Baton Rouge drinking water that inhibits QB development and execution.

Really great point that I had not previously considered. Must check the drinking water. The STAFF has no control over that...

Actually I thought ZM UP TO THIS GAME was pretty good. Most of the problems were the offensive line and drop balls.
T A&M was his worst outing yet.

Bringing up LA tech scoring so many points is fricking stupid.
You realize Florida was trailing a&m at half?
Florida didn't exactly light it up against a&m and they won. Does this mean Florida should be concerned since they didn't put up 70 on a&m?
Dumbass

lol. No.
Jefferson was always thought of as a project qb.
Perrilloux and Lee as a backup was the plan in 08, then perrilloux gets kicked off and lee hurts his back in fall camp. Left with noodle arm hatch

Nothing contradictory about it. Both the receivers and the QB have played poorly consistently enough to produce at least one loss.

I blame it all on coaching, scheme, and player development. The players have more talent than moat teams yet can't produce. The passing game has sucked for years with a mixture of many different players during that time. When a espn analyst can watch a game film and find the same combo routes 18x in one game it should be obvious the coaches are not innovative...hell our running game is awesome and we only run a handful of different plays. How about some misdirection running plays for a change also.

Hard to argue with a Jeffersonesque 97 yards, but he had no turnovers. He hit a few passes in the first quarter, but was probably lucky to hit Boone for the TD.

Of course the offense needs to step it up, but you win big boy football with defense.
Florida only had 180 yards or so total against South Carolina.. How many did we have again? Oh that's right 400+ total offense.. Against a very good SC defense.

Giving up 59 as it's advantages

Of course the STAFF is ultimately responsible for players and player development. For whatever reason, CLM has not developed any kind of serviceable QB. It is puzzling and distressing.

Your point? Did defense cost us the Florida game?
