Just curious on the board's opinion of shot placement. Since I grew up pretty much exclusively hunting the marsh i always aimed for where the neck meets the shoulder (not very tracking friendly out there). Doesn't mess up the meat and they drop like a rock. Anyone else not aim for the traditional vital organ area?

Deer facing at me i go straight for chest n send that lead right through all the vitals.

No booty hole shots for me, if facing away i will take a back of the head shot if its close enough an im comfortable

The neck shot is a pretty good place to go for.

If you disrupt the central nervous system, it's virtually guaranteed to stop them right there.

The reason the shoulder is a better area to aim is twofold.

1. More vitals to hit.

2. Larger target.

If you can hit the neck, go for the neck. No meat is wasted and it usually drops them. But if you're a bad shot, shoulder it is.

I did unintentionally. I was trying to shoot him through the top of the back into the heart/lungs area on the run up a hill in front of me. There was a little ledge on the hill and just as I pulled the trigger his arse came up even with the rest of him when he got to the ledge. About 2" to the right of the a-hole and it went straight through and the bullet exploded in the chest cavity. All I found were lead shards and pieces of heart and lung. He didn't take another step.

i shot one deer perfectly in the heart...It ran 25 yds and bled atleast a 5 sf area pool.

Shot all my other deer right where the shoulder makes the point and havent chased one since.

GF shot one in the neck with 308 and it dropped immediately. Im a fan of shoulder/neck.

Could see me rolling up to show my old man and him looking for the bullet hole.. Then ask "son where did ya hit him" me "well........he turned just as i was pulling the trigger and i hit him a little further back than i wanted"
