Recruiting notebook: LSU next stop for Emerson’s David Palladino
David Palladino didn’t have to wait long for another Division I baseball scholarship.
David Palladino was The Record’s 2011 Player of the Year while at Emerson. He is transferring from junior college power Howard to LSU.
David Palladino was The Record’s 2011 Player of the Year while at Emerson. He is transferring from junior college power Howard to LSU.
The 6-foot-9, 270-pound flamethrower from Emerson will be heading to Louisiana State next fall after spending his sophomore year pitching for national junior college power Howard. Texas Tech also was interested because Palladino is throwing well after undergoing patella tendon surgery last spring.
“It doesn’t take long for most of our better players to get a scholarship offer,” said Howard coach Britt Smith, who sees Palladino as part of his four-man starting rotation in the spring.
Palladino, The Record 2011 Player of the Year, spent his freshman season at South Carolina Upstate. He won four games and saved two before his injury, but decided it wasn’t the place for him.
At LSU, however, Palladino will get a chance to step into the national spotlight.
“I thought it would be a great place to be,” said Palladino, who finished therapy for his injury this week. “I just want to go there and prove myself.”
I wonder if he actually makes it here.

I feel like Dillon Gordon and Jerald Hawkins should get walk on looks when this kid comes to campus. If only for the team photo.

Gordon actually was all state baseball and Hawkins supposed was pretty good as well.

I'm sure there are several guys on the football team that could be really good baseball players with the proper amount of training. We know about Ware, but I'd bet there's a few more.

BTW, I am in no way advocating a bunch of football players switching to baseball. Not enough time to train/practice for it.

On his old baseball america profile it says he throws a "Knuckleball." Should be fun to watch ...

Emerson's David Palladino has joined Ramapo Valley of the Met League and will attend South Carolina Upstate.
The 6-foot-9 right-hander said he turned down an offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers, who chose him in the 13th round of last month's draft. He will be pitching for the Ramapo Valley Giants in the Met League this summer, preparing to attend the University of South Carolina Upstate.

"As of right now, I'm going to college," said Palladino. "I want to go to college and have the college experience. Then I'll have at least three more years [of] maturity, physically and mentally.

Palladino is excited about playing for the Giants because he will be teammates for the first time with his older brother, Anthony, a catcher.

"There are things I want to work on," Palladino said. "I'll be facing college kids, and that will be good experience. I want to get physically stronger."

Top NJ Athletes Countdown: No. 5
by Dan Exter on Wed, Jul 27, 2011 at 1:10 AM / Updated Sun, Jul 31, 2011 at 11:23 AM

No. 5: Emerson's David Palladino
When you describe the type of baseball player that David Palladino was for Emerson High School, one word comes to mind: dominant.
At 6-foot-8, the ace hurler was certainly recognized, but having a fastball clocking in around the low 90s ultimately made opposing batters well aware of whom they were up against.
The Cavaliers' workhorse had a stellar year in 2011, making him one of the most feared pitchers in North Jersey. With such a spectacular season, Palladino comes in at No. 5 in MSG Varsity’s countdown of the top 31 New Jersey athletes for the past school year.
Palladino, a 13th round selection in the 2011 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, was almost perfect in the games he pitched (10-1), had an ERA of 1.07, pitched four no-hitters, and had 131 strikeouts.
Don’t stare too long at his gaudy pitching numbers; the pitcher knew how to hit as well. If Palladino didn’t make your head spin on the mound, he did it at the plate. He batted .488 with eight home runs, drove in 33 runs, and had a .585 on-base percentage.
Look for Palladino to thrive at Division I South Carolina Upstate, just like he did in the Garden State throughout his sterling career.

Seems like he struggled his freshman year at USC-Upstate

5.21 ERA in 38 IP, 40 K, 23 BB, .291 opp/avg

Obviously the potential is huge here, was drafted in 13th round out of high school. WIll be interesting to see how he pitches this year at Howard.

"We all like to do the same stuff and we always help each other out," said Palladino, 18, who last week threw a no-hitter and three-hitter and struck out 24 in 14 innings. "If there’s a tough situation, we always have each other’s backs."

Thats one thing that pisses me off about manari. If a pitcher can hit which we have had in the past and also have on our team now, they never get a chance to do both. Which is fricking stupid

this proper amt of training usually takes years. maybe left field or first base doesn't take too long but batting does. football skills and baseball skills are much different.

It's very hard to be consistently good at both hitting and pitching throughout the whole year. That's why you don't see it that often.

Example: We all know Eades was a great hitter in high school, same goes for Nola. But wouldn't you rather them work on perfecting their pitches than spending time working on hitting?
