Looking for advice on visiting Alaska

What is the best time of year to visit Alaska? We have a niece in Anchorage and the wife wants to go visit next year. Looking at going during the summer as we figured we'd be able to get out and see more things.
Looking at doing a few excursions, anyone have a recommendation? Would like to do a fishing trip but not sure what's in season at that time. Any other "must do's"? Looking at probably 7 to 10 days.
Thanks for any advice!

Seeing the word Alaska on here is like Wiki seeing the letters "HPC" on the OT.

Depends on what you want to do, how much you want to spend and how adventurous you are. Opportunities are endless. Anchorage is kinda meh...but it's a great jumping off point to some awesome places.
