We don't agree on much, but Flying Saucer is my answer, also.

One of my favorite places down there.

I wouldn't really call it a gastropub. It's more of the dining area for Phoenicia that just happens to serve booze and has a gelato counter.

Either way, Phoenicia/MKT downtown is the correct answer.

Ended up going to birraperrettis (sp?).

Pretty on point. Generally pleased.

I'll try flying saucer next time.

Saucer is good for casual food with a good beer selection. It can get pretty loud in there. And during the week on Tuesday and Wednesdays it gets crowded around dinner time due to trivia and glass night.
