Watch the replay. I saw the same thing, but the whistle was still down by his stomach. He didn't put the whistle in his mouth until after the Stanford player made his stretch.

um, he wouldnt have ran in unless someone blew a whistle chief.

You can watch it if you want. He was running in with the whistle still hanging down and didn't raise his hands. I watched for that specifically since I knew you wouldn't be able to hear the whistle on the replay. It's something that isn't really debatable.

re: Was Stanford hosed?

the problem is the ref just didn't explain it...he didn't say what they were reviewing and didn't say why they ruled what they did

at least explain something that important

1. The whistle blew

2. Taylor's elbow hit the ground short of the goal line, as indicated by photo evidence:

3. Taylor lost control of the ball as he tried to stretch it over the goal line.

4. A Stanford O-lineman recovered the ball, but in college as in the pros, a ball fumbled on 4th down cannot be advanced, so the ball returns to the spot of the fumble. Game over.

5. Evidence to overturn the call on the field must be irrefutable, which hardly occurred here.

Mark May, the haters and the Stanford whiners call all suck it.

Looks like the refs made the right call. The elbow was down before he extended the ball. Good angle there.

ESPN won't let facts get in the way of a good story. The angle that defuses the whole argument is conveniently omitted from all ESPN coverage.

Regardless if he got in or not (I think his elbow was down before), the blame needs to be put on coach Shaw. What in the fricking world made him believe he could pound it in against one of the best lines in the country?

Stanford didn't lose because of a bad call, they lost because their coach is an idiot.

I'm laughing it took until pg. 6 for someone to mention the elbow being down. It was the first thing I noticed when I saw the replay. Bunch of ND haters here.

Mike PereiraVerified ?@MikePereira

Back to ND/STA. Piece all the shots together. Field level shot from inside near the goal post shows the left elbow is not down before TD.

if pereira is going to claim that he needs produce the photographic evidence.

i have yet to see an elbow down or not down.

regardless, the ND players started to celebrate as we can see from this pic:

because they heard whistle blow to stop fwd progress.

That's their fault for celebrating.

Play wasn't over brah.

He was sitting on players and they didn't know.

Oregon was celebrating when they tackled Auburn and dude kept running to the goal line to set up the game winning TD in the Natty.

I do agree, the players should have never done so, but they are taught to "play until you hear the whistle."

Regardless, to overturn the call on the field there has to be conclusive evidence, yes? I have yet to see a photo showing Taylors elbow down OR not down so how can we come to any conclusions?

(if a photo exists, Id love to see it; that gif shows nothing)

I thought he was in, but it was close enough that I was fine with whatever the refs called. It was real close.
