Dragon Age: Origins is more epic than Skyrim

Now before all of the Skyrim fanboys flood the thread with crappy flames, let me explain. I did not say Dragon Age: Origins was a better game than Skyrim. There is absolutely no arguing that Skyrim is better in a boatload of areas. As it should be, seeing as how Skyrim had about 3 years to develop after DA:O came out.


However, in terms of the writing and storytelling along with execution of the plot, I don't think many can argue that DA:O has Skyrim beat in that area pretty handily. Many credit this to the cinematics. I, however, think it's just a case of DA:O having a better written story. The character development is head and shoulders above anything in Skyrim. I found myself completely caring about my character and the people around him. The insane amount of plot twists that happen based on your choices alone gives you way more of a feeling of control than can be found in Skyrim. The feeling of impending doom from the very beginning of the game excellently portrays the motivation to finish the game and see the quest through. That is something severely hindering my enjoyment of Skyrim. I have yet to beat it because I just don't give a damn. The constant detachment and lack of character development kills any kind of feel the great story in Skyrim could have. Again, this is not to say that Skyrim isn't great in its own right. But for someone to say that Skyrim is hands down the best RPG ever made is a bit of an overstatement.


(Just a thread to discuss the differences between the two along with other Fantasy RPG's that could be tossed in the ring as well. Got in a discussion with a friend of mine and the thoughts displayed above are what came to mind. Feel free to open up discussion.)
