This game will be marked as the beginning of something, imo.

Up to now, the fanbase is pretty much split on whether Miles is a coach that can consistently keep LSU in the NC mix. Even though in a relatively short tenure, he's won one and played in another, many of our fans don't see him as that elite level coach. I think if he wins this game, it marks the beginning of when the "rest" of the Tiger faithful got behind coach Miles.
I heard Brando say once that he believes that at least 2 or 3 games per year (in college footbal) are determined by the result of a previous game. I tend to believe that. I think that if LSU wins Saturday, they likely go on to beat Alabama, A and M, and probably win out/represent the west.
Conversely, if they lose, I think Alabama for sure beats us, and probably either State or A and M does as well.
Saturday, at around 10:30, LSU will either be squarely back in the national championship hunt, or squarely looking forward to next year, with a quarterback with a year under his belt, and more mature team, and hopefully fully recovered from the injury bug. A loss means this team didn't whiff it's early season expectations.
As much of a Coach Leslie Edwin Miles fan as I am, I have probably never been more dissapointed in the product that's been put on the field this year - at least from an offensive standpoint. This team is playin extremely tight, and doing so for a coach that has a loose reputation. That needs to change Saturday.
I think come Saturday night, we get the old CLM. His back, as well as this team's, is against the wall right now, he knows that injuries or not, he's still got the talent to stay on the field w/Alabama (thus compete for an NC). I think he loosens the mood up at practice this week, tells his guys to start enjoying themselves a little more, and that he's going to lead that change in attitude by "letting it rip" a little more.
Let's go Tigers, we're still in this! Let Florida be a wakeup call. You lost to a really good team, on the road, and played tight. Do what you've got to do to get back to being that group that everyone feared - the team that other teams knew they couldn't beat. You're still in this. It's one loss in a league that that nation says can have a team suffer a loss, and still be the best team in the country.
Regroup, rebound, and respond to what's in front of you. Y'all can do this.

Or, 1/9/12.
Or in SECCG against Ga.(esp. first half)
Or the prior week against Arky (esp. first half).
The unhealthy symptoms can be traced back years, even.
Outstanding defenses and special teams hid the persistent weaknesses, that everyone must now acknowledge, if we want to be an elite program.
Otherwise the "begining" was last week.

With M&M likely gone next year, I don't see us being "in the Hunt" next year either. Maybe things would have been different this year had Ruebin R. stayed??

they could both leave and I can still see us in the hunt next year. some things would have to break right for us (no pun intended) on the health and recruiting front, but I can def see us right there.
and on recruiting, I primarily mean just holding on to the commits we have.

I've been on here (and talked to fans away from here) long enough to tell you that the detractors have long since made up their mind. A win Saturday won't get them behind MIles. I don't think winning out the year would get them behind Miles.
On the other hand, I do think a loss this week, following on last week's loss and with very tough games to come would indeed erode his support with a significant number of fans at least temporarily (depending on how the rest of the year plays out).

We have been in the NC mix every year but 08 and 09.
I agree with what you said, but I said that the fanbase is mixed on their belief of whether whether or not Miles can do that. Facts be damned.

I think LSU fans are in denial right now because of the expectations we had before Mathieu was dismissed and the injury bug hit. We aren't championship caliber this year except for defense maybe. The other two pieces of the puzzle (special teams and offense) aren't up to that level. It's easier if you adjust your expectations and realize that what we have seen with our own eyes regarding the offense (and Miles' philosophy) is what it is. I don't expect to see a whole lot of difference this weekend.

It depends. It might if the win(s) meets their standard for aesthetics.

Why does everyone think that we sucked on offense against Arkansas? Because we had one bad quarter giving up a fumble for a TD?
And I don't think it's fair to reference the 1st half of the Georgia game without acknowledging the second half. It was one of the best 2nd half displays of offense we had all season.

And, last time I checked two halves are required for a football game.
In both of these, the special teams and defenses were the key to turning the game around.
And the fact that the first half of the Arky and Ga. games looked a LOT like the game on 1/9/12, Auburn(12) and Fla (12) is "coincidence" ?

The games from last season and this season definitely involve the exact same personnel, and we definitely don't have a ridiculous amount of O-line injuries this year as well as a first year starting QB and receivers that can't catch a cold.
So what are the parallels we are supposed to draw to these units?
