Shailene Woodley from Secret Life and The Descendants is said to be the front-runner.

Also Harry Osborne is said to be in the film as well as the villain, Electro.

I have a few questions, as I'm not too familiar with Spidey's story and I haven't seen the most recent one.

When was the transition from Gwen Stacy to Mary Jane, in the comics? And also, how does the most recent one compare to the previous ones, as well as the MCU movies?

early 70s I believe after the famous ending to Gwen Stacy...Peter is single for awhile, but MJ bonds with him.

The Amazing Spider-Man was a much better film than the Rami Trilogy, IMO, because it substituted camp for a little more grit, without going over board. People say Spider-Man isn't dark, but if you have ever read the books, there is some really dark moments. I was a fan of Tobey's Spidey until I watched Andrew Garfield. The guy nails it and is more believable hero.

As compared to the MCU movies-hard to say, TAS gave a distinct NYC feel, and other than The Avengers, no MCU movies give off that feel. I'd rank it above Cap and Thor, honestly.

Secret Life

Some of the worst acting I've ever seen in my life. How it has made it past 1 season is beyond me. Woodley is the only decent actor/actress on the show.

Thanks, it's on my list now.

Ron's right. It was around '75 I think.

Maybe I'm just too low brow. But the new Spider Man disappointed me. I was bored at times. I want action. No more origin stories, and less Peter Parker. The director said in advance that he wanted this to be a story about Parker and it was. But he's not that interesting.

I attempted to watch the pilot when it first came out. I couldn't get through the first 15 minutes. Haven't watched a minute of it since. I was impressed with Woodley in The Descendants though. She seems like she's one of the next up and comers in Hollywood right now.

She does it for me as well. Great voice for MJ IMO. Will be nice to see her in something that I don't hate.

Yeah, as soon as Stan Lee stopped having daily input on the comic, the writers killed off Gwen Stacy. She's a bland blonde girl-of-your-dreams type. MJ was always the more interesting one, and they made her the best friend. As soon as Lee didn't have to fill his blonde bimbo fix, the writers gave Spidey the more logical girl, who is also the better character.

The origin did seem to drag on, mostly because we had already seen it relatively recently in the original. Other than that, I preferred the new version and look forward to the next installment.

Cold...but I guess that's the Marvel way. I enjoyed Gwen in TAS and was highly disappointed in the Raimi trilogy abandoned the "traditional" Spider-Man, but without bringing better content along with him.

This would be dumb since they haven't introduced Norman/Green Goblin. He doesn't become a villain until Green Goblin comes into play and his story unfolds. Plus we haven't hear enough about Norman to just jump into Harry's story.

Electro? Meh. Don't see him as a serious villain.

Honestly they should wait until the third to kill off Gwen and introduce MJW.

OP phrased that poorly. Harry is going to be in the film. The villain might be Electro. I'd like to see his high school years extended to TAS2. So Harry and Flash Thompson are good for the film.

As for Electro, if it's part of the Sinister Six , I am down for that. That can pave the way for Kraven-everyone's favorite nowadays.

Additionally, an unspecified villain and Harry Osborn are also said to be in the cast. Production starts early next year. The trade paper claims that means the filmmakers still have time to settle on which villain will show up, so I guess the basics of the script are still being hashed out? In any event, there was a bit of Electro-like lightning in the post-credits sequence of the first film, wasn't there?
