| Where exactly is the line between Goodell and the owners? (Posted on 10/11/12 at 4:53 am)
From the Jimmy Kennedy Whistle blower thread:
quote:
As NFL owners prepare to gather in Chicago for the first full meeting since a string of embarrassments smacked against the shield like a repeated pecan pies in the face, the gratuitous outing of a whistleblower who never became a witness can be added to the list of things for which the owners could be demanding a full and complete explanation.
It got me thinking. What do any of the owners think of all this? Will they demand a full and complete explanation? Do they think Goodell is abusing his power? I realize Goodell represents them. Yet how much of all this bad publicity (bounty, replacement refs, etc) is Roger's doing opposed to the owners'? At this point it seems the fans dont care and that they will keep watching the games and spending money on the NFL. If that's the case do the owners even care?

Of course the owners care. They are limited in what they cand o because ultimately everything they own is owned by the shield. Goodell just better not forget that they are his bosses and their teams pay his salary. Thats why the NFL should have a seperate panel or organization that deal specifically with fines and discipline for players, coaches, and oranizations.

I think they love him. He's a $10mil a year flunkie that will do whatever dirty work they desire. He can take the heat as long as their incomes and team values continue toward the stratosphere. Fujita was quite eloquent and to the point. From his statement: For me, the issue of player health & safety is personal. For the league and the Commissioner, it's about perception & liability... He failed to acknowledge a link between concussions & post-career brain disease, pushed for an 18-game regular season, committed to a full season of Thursday night games, has continually challenged players' rights to file workers compensation claims for on-the-job injuries, and he employed incompetent replacement officials for the start of the 2012 season. --------------------- I fear the NFL is on course to continue evolving into a very different game than what most of us have known growing up. I expect to see it continue evolving toward flag football. Everything beyond the game itself- the hype, the personalities, fantasy leagues, etc will grow beyond the sport as one monolithic money machine. Not overnight changes but similar to the rate of the past couple of decades and we'll be there.

Whatever he makes, he has diminished the integrity of the position for the forseeable future.

I agree that the NFL is turning into a flag football league.
