Brought my truck for a tune-up to the shop. Was warned that the plugs are 3 piece and can easily seperate and snowball into a huge issue if its froze down in the motor. Anybody ever heard of this. Fwiw the guy that owns the shop has never done me wrong and told me to bring it back after hunting season just in case they wind up having to keep it for a while.

I heard they can break and require a special tool to remove.

I think they charge you for the tool every time, even though they have it laying around somewhere out back, if you know what I mean.

I have definitely heard of this but don't know much about the issue.

I think they have to pull the heads if the plug breaks off.

Prayers sent.

My dads 04 F150 cost him 800 to 'tune up'
Due to those POS flex fuel plugs.

Upon hearing this, I think that is what the deal is...

A buddy of mine had this happen a few years ago and was bitching about the design flaw/cost.

I have no clue how that layout ever made it past the drawing board.

ETA: I think that after I graduate, I'm gonna become an engineering stupid shite consultant. As in you draw up whatever you want, send the drawings to me, and I'll explain to you all the really stupid shite about your design.

Start spraying a lubricant on the top of the plugs now and continue weekly to you are ready to tune up. They may break one or a few. Chances are if they were installed without a no seize compound, a few will break! 600.00 to 1k to remove.

Have same truck and had same issue.

Old spark plugs were causing some hesitation during acceleration, spark plugs were a pain to deal with, make sure you have a capable person to address

If I were you, I probably wouldn't get them changed unless I was planning on keeping the truck forever.

Its paid for and just rolled over 100k. I'm driving it until the wheels fall off. Especially after I backed into that front end loader Monday

Not only do you have to worry about the plugs breaking off, buy just getting to them is an even bigger problem. The front 2 on each head are somewhat accessible. The back two, especially the ones on the driver side are damn near impossible to get to.
