| Official OB Where-To Camping Fall 2012 Camping Guide (Posted on 10/9/12 at 5:34 pm)
The purpose of this thread is to build a list of places within a short, yet worthwhile driving distance from Baton Rouge in order to enjoy a weekend in the out-of-doors. The audience we're going for are people that like camping (in tents) and those that are experts and novices. There's no better way to spend time outside than by camping. So here's what I need all of you to provide which I'll update the OP with: - Websites of particular campgrounds you've been to and enjoyed your experience at. Keep the distance down to 4-5 hours from Baton Rouge. Make sure the link has directions, rules, and prices. - Ideas for activities to center your camping around: hiking, backpacking, kayaking, geocaching, orienteering, etc. If you're outside you might as well do something with it. - Recipes for good camp food. What's your go-to open-fire, dutch oven, propane, or backpacking stove recipe? - Safe and clean camping tips/tricks. Where to and not to camp, how to keep animals out, leave no trace, etc. What I'll do is compile your links into an easy-to-follow format and write little blurbs about each. I have the locations that I think are good and some other things that I will fill in. The power of this thread will come from you guys! So give me links to things you think would be helpful to the novice or avid camper and I'll try to get them up here! -Pec

I nominate Pectus as the camping thread starter dude. Clear springs in Mississippi is my contribution.

Motorboat down to Last Isle, pitch a tent and fish both sides. No worries about crowds and the insects should be less than horrendous.

Black Creek near Wiggins Mississippi. Rent a canoe for about $30. They drop you off at the launch. Float downriver and pick a good sandbar to camp on. Float the rest of the way down to the pick up launch. I think the float can be stretched out over three days, 25 miles total. No need to rush paddle slow and enjoy. Bring everything you need in canoe. Creek water can be used for cooking and making coffee in the morning. It's clear just make sure you boil it just in case. This is one place to rent canoes. I think there are a few more if you google. Canoe Rentals

Good easy breakfast- All you need is a pot with boiling water -take an egg crack in Ziploc bag and scramble it -add cheese, precooked sausage, onions,,,,etc(whatever you like) -put into pot of boiling water til done -eat on tortillas no mess and no dishes to clean we use precooked sausage and precooked hash-browns with onions and bell peppers, better than pop-tarts and no cleanup time
