| Bottom Line - Regarding upcomming WCQs (Posted on 10/9/12 at 9:21 am)
even with Jurgen's roster exclusions. We SHOULD get six points this upcomming week. I think he knows this, and it's why he's comfortable leaving Jozy, Terrance, and Lichaj out. let's save the melt down for when/if the results don't happen.

We SHOULD have beaten Jamaica away. Antigua and Barbuda SHOULD never have scored against us at home.

I can live with A&B scoring on us as long as we win.

I don't think it's that simple and sadly, we've "played" ourselves into a position where we may not have full control of our destiny. If Guatemala beats Jamaica (at Guatemala), and we draw with A&B (at A&B), we could find ourselves playing the CONCACAF team most capable of scratching out a draw in a position where they would advance if doing so. Remember that Mexico got through the third round in 2010 only on goal differential, primarily because they hired a high profile European coach that had failed in high profile jobs before, and made a mess of tactics and player selection that almost sunk the team. Stop me if you've heard this one before.

we control our destiny in the sense that if we win both games we're through. I agree a draw at A&B is possible, and maybe even likely.

If Jozy had done more to make that happen (and not called Jurgen incompetent on Twitter), then Jozy would be in the camp right now. Boyd is not better right now than our other forwards. Lichaj should be on the roster but wouldn't start anyway.

What do you want him to do? Get the ball from Howard and dribble the entire Jamaican team? Our midfield was so shittacular that he almost never got the ball.

NYT's player rankings after the Jamaica Loss. Attacking players only. Clint Dempsey: There were a lot of questions whether or not Dempsey would start since he has not played a game since June. But Dempsey scored early and looked lively and energetic whenever the midfield was able to get him the ball. Unfortunately for the U.S., that that was far too infrequent. Rating: 6.5 Herculez Gomez: Like Dempsey, Gomez was not able to get involved in the game enough due to the poor play from the midfield but he still was able to make some effective plays. He was mostly responsible for the early U.S. goal, and throughout the first half he was one of the few bright spots in the attack. Rating: 6 Jozy Altidore: After a strong start to the Eredivisie season in Holland, Altidore was largely invisible against Jamaica and mostly ineffective. While the midfield play was mostly to blame, Altidore was not able to find a way to get involved. Rating: 5

Never. How many of you would choose this lineup: Howard, Dolo, Goodson, Ream, Captain, Dempsey, Bradley, Jones, Altidore, Agudelo over this one: Howard, Dolo, Cameron, Captain, Johnson, Williams/Jones, Zusi, Bradley, Donovan, Dempsey, Gomez I think we're better off now than we were last year under Bob. We've had some good results and added some promising players while saying goodbye to some bad ones. The Jamaica loss was unfortunate but not worse than losing to Panama in Houston. He seemed to learn from his mistake if we can judge from the last game. If we don't qualify for the WC, that would be terrible and JK would be fired, but don't tell me that there's no way Bob wouldn't have qualified. This isn't 2008 in CONCACAF.

I'd say losing a World Cup Qualifier to a team we hadn't lost to in NINETEEN previous attempts is a bit worse than losing a group stage match in the Gold Cup. The Panama loss was a shite show, but had it not been for the (many) missed sitters, we wouldn't even remember the game. I don't really recall creating a scoring chance against Jamaica after the first minute.

That game was an embarrassment especially for Jurgen and his staff.

Why can't I support the team and question some of our Coach's decisions? I fully support the team and whoever goes out and plays but that doesn't mean I don't have the right to critique our performances. To believe blindly in one coach is ignorant especially after his recent performances. So you go on telling other US supporters not to support the team because they don't make a positive statement every time they post.

the bottom line is there's a chance we could miss out on the WC and that's too much of a chance to leave down to the final two games against this quality of teams. Klinsmann's job might be impossible, but guess what, he isn't doing it so far. we're thisclose to having a mistake turn into a cataclysmic catastrophe for US soccer we want him to be Bruce Arena when he;d be a better Sunil Gulati

We already know it's not impossible, as the last 20 years have shown us. Job A1 is to qualify for the World Cup. We'll sure as shite never win a World Cup if we don't qualify.

It's not the roster I would have picked, but all I'm saying is...I've never coached Der Mannschaft, or Bayern Munchen (however futile that stint may have been), or been the FA's player of the year. However much we think we know about our player pool, and their current form. Jurgen and his staff know a 1000 times more. Fact is despite his club form, Jozy has been underwhelming for the US. I'm going to trust Jurgen for now, and if need be I'll melt down next week.

Poor little country bumpkin doesn't know he can question decisions on a message board and still root for a team.
