We should sign catfish and let him live the dream. He might be able to draw a few walks, and the only compensation he would ask for is being able to use the showers with the team after the game.

Upton to decide this week.

We're the rumored leader.

DOB believes we will pay more than we wanted to get him.

Are these guys even worth a big contract?

I say screw it and just go with Josh Hamilton. Go big or don't go at all. This Free Agent Market appears somewhat weak.

Looking at his minor league stats...why hasn't he gotten a shot in the bigs? 317 XBH in 710 minor league games. 111 HRs, 192 doubles, .836 OPS. He plays 1B, so he isn't going to crack our starting lineup, but he's right handed and it sounds like he would be at least be a decent late game power bat.

Seems a chance we add both Upton and Swisher.

That'd be fun.

I am really starting to lean this way especially if we are going to overpay for Upton/Bourn which all reports indicate. Ideally Phi/Was would bust there nut with Bourn/Upton and we could slip in and get Hamilton for fair-market price. I'm just not sure that's possible. I just think overpaying for Upton is stupid.

I LOVE Josh Hamilton but don't want him.

Way, way too up and down. Not what this team needs.

Obviously it would depend on what exactly we could get him for and what bourn/upton end up getting. I think I like the idea of getting hamilton at fair market value better than overpaying for Bourn/Upton.

Chances are all 3 will get more money than they are worth tho.

Also,

RT @JeffPassan: At $1.73M/game, it will take the Dodgers around 6 or 7 games to make what the Braves get for an entire season's TV money.

Yeah, if any of y'all know of any articles that detail the contract itself and what exactly the Braves were thinking I would love to read it.

It's just hard for me to fathom that LA/Rangers are that much more enticing than the ATL market/entire southeast. Maybe I over value our braves.

I don't think you overvalue the Braves at all. They have fans all over the freaking place and dominate the southeast.

The Braves problem is that they signed their TV contract while all other teams were still on their previous contracts, so we had a good deal going. And then all of a sudden teams started getting massive amounts on new deals and the Braves ended up already locked in and screwed.

That's at least how I think it went. I'd love to read some articles about the situation as well.

Paying Hamilton 200+ million, which is what we wants, is a lot different than overpaying BJ Upton 70-ish million.
