LSU passing game explained

quote:

"Open it up some" has basically meant that Mettenberger throws a few more deep bombs than the other guys did last year. I have seen no evidence yet that Miles, Studrawa, and Steve Kragthorpe intend to use a more sophisticated passing game.

Decent article...it states what I have been saying; that the passing offense needs more diversity to challenge more complex defenses. Sometimes this is being ignored in the midst of all the complaints about the OL, the WR, and the QB but what is true is that we are running a somewhat Vanilla 70s Michigan offense.

If play is inconsistent Miles will shut the offense down; see Auburn game. We haven’t needed a “sophisticated” passing attack to beat our other opponents. Mett is a first time D1 starter and is improving. The passing game will come around. Until then or until Les’s back is against the wall (maybe this weekend) he will choose to win games instead of pacifying the masses.

They've won 19 of their last 20 games and are 29-3 over the last 3 seasons. I sure hope for our fans sake that Les and company can "come around" to meet the expectations of the dipshits of the Tiger Rant.

This. The Rant offensive coordinators need to shut the frick up, and go back to playing Madden 2012.

There has been no evidence that it will come around. They are still running the easy arse to defend routes from last year. And guess what team have had a whole year to study film. This shite ain't going to work going forward. If Miles doesn't change then we are looking dead at a 8-4, 9-3 season. This team has shown it is not experienced or good enough to do what last years team could that formula won't work. Miles has to see that, but he has shown himself to be stubborn. We do not run a sophisticated passing game and you can not invent one over night. At this moment I am not looking forward to the rest of the season. Teams will shutdown our run game and we won't be able to make them pay as Les said, because our line sucks and the 2-3 recievers we send out will be covered.

Good. Quit watching, and moreover, quit posting on an LSU fan message board.

No. You want to stick your head in the sand and think everything is all good go ahead. You can't tell me what you have watched so far leads you to believe we can match up with the teams we are about to play. I've been a LSU fan for 40 years, put plenty of money into the program and have the right to bitch if I don't like what I see. Les need to change his passing game period. If he doesn't he ain't having many more 10 win seasons.

I don't remember the passing game being sophisticated in 2003 or 2007 and we dominated both of those NC games. Its really simple for us, the O-line needs to run block their asses off and force the D to bring the 8th man into the box then we make them pay with the pass. We have the RB's and QB to make it happen, the question is are the WR's and O-line up to the task.

I'm guessing several years ago you were in the "punt-ugly will cost us 2-3 games this year" crowd...

You said it will come around, tell us why you believe this is so.

I'm not here saying the offense needs to do 'x' to get 'y'. I'm not Laying out expectations. I'm just questioning why people believe a threatening passing game will materialize when there has been none for what 5, 6 years?

a-hole.

ETA: Sorry, I just noticed you werent the poster I initially responded to. But my point stands.

I agree that he is a talented passer. What has worried me of late is the slow speed and awkwardness under pressure. The upcoming stretch of games will test his mobility which has been poor.

I was as excited as anyone watching him in the Spring Game and on other scrimmage vids but when the live action hits were added his effectiveness dropped more than I expected.

No I've been a Miles supporter, but he isn't fixing what has been wrong. The reality right now is he can't coach a fricking offense that has any kind of consistency to it in the passing game. His scheme is shite and is to easily defended. I no longer think it's on the QB.

LSU had no problem throwing the ball in 2007 with Flynn in tight spots such as against Auburn, Bama, Ark (even though we lost) or going on 4th down against UF. What concerns me is that we can be okay in the passing game & win all of the games except against Bama. However, the O-line needs to get its act together. You would think with the O-line coach as the OC, it would be a strong point of the team. Miles needs to demand better from the line & the passing attack if he wants win a NC. I am sure he realizes this. If not, LSU won't win a NC anyway.

Maybe had we taken time to throw the ball better we would have won 20 of our last 20 and have a 32-0 record over the last 3 seasons. Having a mature passing game is a positive.
